I completed the GEOG 285- Landscaping and Geography course and it exceeded all of my expectations! This three week program was the perfect mix of exploring, scenery, learning, and exhilaration. There is a great balance between school and fun and the field trips are remarkable. There is also enough time during weekends to go on personal trips. This class offers the opportunity of a lifetime and I loved every second of it. I had the chance to truly experience learning abroad and I met many cool people throughout the endeavor. The University of Otago staff were incredible and made me feel at home. I highly recommend this program and would do it again in a heartbeat! :)…

He traveled all over New England trying, and failing to persuade people to buy his items. Willy would brag “I did five hundred gross in Providence and seven hundred gross in Boston.”(Act 1, Scene 1) Linda got so excited “that makes your commission... two hundred-my God! Two hundred and twelve dollars.”(Act 1, Scene 1) Willy immediately realizes his exaggeration takes back his statement, giving excuses for why he didn’t really reach that commission. Linda figures “Well, it makes seventy dollars and some pennies. That’s very good.” ( Act 1, Scene 1) Willy felt that through being a salesman he would be able to have the American dream.…
In conclusion, “The Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller greatly examined the famous American Dream, theme of betrayal, as well as abandonment. In trying to achieve the American Dream, Willy took his life. The Dream consumed his world until he was no more. However, within the mindset of the American Dream, it did indeed have one positive aspect. Part of the Dream is to wish that your children amount to more in life than yourself and this is what Willy tries to do in the play. Though Willy and Biff have feelings of betrayal towards each other, both intended good will upon each other. The play has proven to be riddled with many human emotions.…
Do you agree with Arthur Miller’s assertion in Tragedy and the Common Man that Willy Loman is indeed a tragic hero? Why or why not?…
Accomplishing a dream or a goal is one of the most important achievements in anybody’s life. In Arthur Miller’s story, Death of a Salesman, becoming a successful (well liked and wealthy) salesman, seems to be the one and only dream that defined the purpose of Willy Loman’s life. In order to accomplish his lifetime dream, Willy should have taken certain aspects into consideration, he should have identified himself with the dream he wanted to pursue, he should have given importance to the talents and gifts of his own, and he should have realized that he was not successful as a salesman like Biff was able to in the Requiem.…
The Old South consisted of many traits that helped sculpted Texas into becoming the state is it now. In The old south, it was common for agriculture to be priority. Cotton, tobacco, etc. just to name a few were considered cash valued crops. In the old south, many citizens had been apart of the military, or have fought in a battle within their lifetime. The old south was an era was citizens were in poverty, and the government was not stabilized with set boundaries and laws. The lives of the Loman’s from beginning to end seems troubling, the play is centered on trying to be successful or trying to be happy, and the sacrifice which must be made of one to achieve the other. The environment that these characters live in encourages them to pursue the American dream, which can be said to devalue happiness through the pursuit of material success. Death of A Salesman written by Arthur Miller has several themes that run through the play, one of the most obvious is the constant striving for success. Willy Loman put his family through endless torture because of his search for a successful life. Willy, Biff, and Happy are chasing the American dream instead of examining themselves to find what will make themselves happy.…
In conclusion, Goodman reveals a general sense of indifference for Phil through the use of emotionally detached details, varying sentence lengths, and simplistic diction with a tinge of negative connotation to summarize Phil’s life. Not only does this story serve as a metaphor for the “company man” of that milieu, but it also shows the detriments of the “work first, family later” mindset that men often…
In Arthur Miller’s play, Death of a Salesman, through his character, Linda Loman, the author alludes to the idea that everyone, whether they are famous or not, deserves support when they are at their lowest in life. For instance, when Linda is talking about Willy to her sons she says, “He works for a company thirty-six years this March, opens up unheard-of territories to their trademark, and now in his old age they take his salary away” (40). Here, Miller presents how Willy has worked at his company for a long time and use to do a great job when he was younger, but now that he is older he is not as popular. Therefore, he does not make as much money anymore, which caused the company to take his salary away. This illuminates to the idea that…
Although Willy Loman is a deeply flawed character, there is something compelling about his nostalgia. Modernity accounts for the obsolescence of Willy Loman's career --traveling salesman are rapidly becoming out-of-date. Significantly, Willy reaches for modern objects, the car and the gas heater, to assist him in his suicide attempts.…
WILLY: They don’t need me in New York. I’m the New England man. I’m vital in New England. ” Willy keeps on thinking that he is a ‘New England man’ when it is actually going really bad for him so he is pretending, I think miller chose this specific words to show that he was lying, lying is a way of false pride, so Willy could lie so much that he starts believing his own lies. This is what starts to drag Willy into the false pride.…
Bright lights, colorful signs, and delicious smells, all are things that may be found in an ethnic neighborhood. An ethnic neighborhood is a neighborhood, where the majority, if not all the population is of the same belief, and follows the same religion. One of the most well-known neighborhoods in Chicago is Chinatown. Chinatown has many cultural traits that set it apart from neighboring areas; however there is always a looming threat of internal and external threats to its culture.…
