Human Resource Management Roles
Human resources are a vital factor in all organizations both large and small. Back in the day human resources main function was to hire and fire. Currently, organizations have lifted the roles of human personal functions to a much higher degree. This article outlines the human resources management’s role in the health care industry. A hospital is a microcosmic community that operates like a small city, presenting the same issues with a stronger dynamic because of the human interaction factor. With functions that cover everything from performance management to safety, Human Resources Management plays a vital role in the health care workplace in ensuring the delivery of health care services and facilitating optimal patient outcomes. In any health care setting, the Human Resources department fills a variety of personnel needs that both employers and employees encounter. The role of this department is to manage all aspects of operations that are personnel-related (Healthcare Administration,n.d.).Responsibility for the effective use of human resources lies primarily with managers. Hence, all managers are personnel managers. HR professionals’ role is to act as internal consultants or experts, assisting managers to do their jobs better. Over the past three decades, the size of the typical HR department has increased considerably. This increase reflects both the growth and complexity of government regulations and a greater awareness that HR issues are important to the achievement of business objectives (Gómez-Mejía, Balkin, & Cardy, 2010).Human resources managers are still in the hiring league of professionals, but hiring tactics have significantly changed. HR managers are now using strategic hiring methods to choose the right people, the right way, such as sending out recruitment ads to fresh out of college seniors rather than simply posting an ad in the newspaper for people with low qualification skills to Human
