Human Service Agency Interview
Human Service Agency Interview
Date: July 11, 2010
To: Shelley Kerr, LCSW
From:
RE: Deaconess Cross Pointe I conducted an in person interview at Deaconess Cross Pointe, 7200 East Indiana Street; Evansville, Indiana 47715. I interviewed Natalie Goffinett, who has achieved her Master’s Degree in Social Work, and counsel’s children and families at that facility. When setting the appointment to interview Ms. Goffinett, I offered her the option to conduct the interview either in person or over the telephone. Ms. Goffinett and I agreed that an in person interview would be best if I wanted to have the opportunity to tour the facilities, as well as develop a sense for inpatient and outpatient environments. Deaconess Cross Pointe is a state licensed facility offering a full range of mental health services and psychiatric care which can meet the emotional and behavioral health care need of children, teen, adults, and their families. This facility meets, and exceeds my career goals and objectives; I would definitely consider working with this agency, as well as recommending others in need of the services that this facility provides.
Question 1: How did the agency start? Deaconess Hospital was founded in June 1893 by four Evansville physicians who bought a home on the corner of Mary and Iowa streets which was then converted to a 19-bed hospital. As an Institution, it began crudely, but has now become the largest hospital in Southern Indiana. The Cross Pointe facility is an extension of the hospital that provides care and treatment at all levels of mental health treatment through both outpatient programs and a fully accredited 60-bed inpatient facility.
Question 2: What is the mission of the agency? In keeping with its Christian heritage and tradition of service, the mission of Deaconess Cross Pointe Hospital is to provide quality health care services with a compassionate and caring spirit to persons, families and communities of the Tri-State.

ME (Orientation) Sometimes I wonder why I wrestle with the same problem over and over. I feel so stupid for just not being able to conquer it. But that’s probably something only I go through, right? Here’s the thing- I’ve tried to tell myself for years that I am a strong person, thick-skinned, able to take it on the chin, but the truth is, I have had many challenges, especially in the area of relationships. Why do I have so much trouble with people? Why do I always seem to end up being deeply disappointed by their lack of integrity, selfish behavior, meanness, etc.? Why do I take it so hard and personally? Why am I so easily OFFENDED? I have always considered myself to be a good friend-to my friends. I know that I am faithful, caring, sensitive to their needs, and generous. I’m not trying to sound like a super-saint here, I’m just saying that I put effort in being a true friend. The problem is, not everyone I have been a friend to, has been a friend to me. I have suffered many disappointments, had confidences betrayed, been unappreciated and taken advantage of. These betrayals have caused me to be overly sensitive to people’s words and actions, and, I hate to admit it but I have turned into a Christian who is easily offended. What exactly am I talking about when I say I am “offended”? I believe that to offend means that a person intentionally acted, to harm and betray another, in order to make them angry or feel some other negative emotion. Scripture translates these actions as causing someone to “sin” through anger. Now that we have a definition, is it a surprise that so many of our offenders have been family members, church members and close friends? WELL, IT WAS TO ME! And I tell you- I have…

The healing hospital 's paradigm has three components with a major focus on the patient 's environment. The three major components are a culture of loving care, a healing physical environment, and an integrated work design and technology. Health care providers at healing hospitals support the physical and emotional well being of the patients, and not just focusing on curing their diseases. Healing hospitals ensure patients are comfortable and mentally and physically prepared for their treatment plan. Health care providers at these facilities have to be competent in the patient 's medical needs and the ability to deliver loving to the patients. It is important for workers to go the extra mile for their patients, and to help with their spiritual needs.…
