Human Takes Control of Evolution

Humans take Control of Evolution Humans have only existed about 130, 000 years ago and we have recently evolved. Human activities are driving the evolution of other species in dramatic and often unexpected ways. Natural selection no longer affects us but we have effect it in many ways. Another way, we control the outcome of our race is "self-designed evolution” (Hawkings, 2009). Unnatural Selection takes part of our control of evolution. For example, the geographic isolation of different groups has been broached. “Never before human gene pool has been widespread mixing of what were heretofore entirely separated local populations of our species.”(Ward 2009). Our genes have been mixing by interbreeding. Today we have now created the world Utopia. Steve Jones of University College London said “Utopia if you want to know what Utopia is, just look around you.”(Jones 2002). In today’s society almost everyone has the opportunity of equal chance to having children. Homo sapiens is one of the largest living species in the world and we can change or help the way we live easier. Stephen Hawkings is a British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author. He created a theory called Self Designed Evolution, it is a new phase of evolution we are entering. He said that we will be able to change and improve our DNA. "These changes will be confined to the repair of genetic defects, like cystic fibrosis, and muscular dystrophy. These are controlled by single genes, and so are fairly easy to identify, and correct.” (Hawkings, 2009). It will be good and helpful for our survival if we can alter and improve our DNA and fix the problems some people may suffer from. He also said that in the next century, “people will discover how to modify intelligence and instincts like aggression.”(Hawkings 2009). This is dramatically change are way of thought and survival and will impact the Earth and its surrounding environments.

In chapter six of Radical Evolution, author Joel Garreau shows through various interviews and examples that even though technology may be rising on an exponentially increasing Curve, humans may still be able to change the effects of technological advance in unpredictable ways. Deemed the Prevail scenario, it is also characterized by humans slowing down once-viewed inevitable change viewed as negative and speeding up positive change. Another great theme of the Prevail Scenario is its idea that technological advance will enable humans to acquire a better understanding of their society and nature. In addition to discussing the Prevail scenario, Garreau also discusses the possible change humans themselves may experience in chapter seven. He shows this possibility through a series of interviews and historic examples.…

    2. Humans shape their environment in ways that other organisms cannot. Are humans subject to the same pressures of natural selection as other organisms? Why? Humans, just as all other organisms are subject to natural selection pressures. The fact is that over a period of time, unavoidable gene pool changes occur in all species. It is estimated that ever since humans branched away from chimpanzees, they have been experiencing 4.2 amino acid changing mutations on average per generation (Gould, S.J. 2002). Through a mechanism called genetic drift, gene frequencies change over a period of time, and it’s very occurrence is a phenomenon that cannot be denied. Random events cause an increase or decrease in a certain gene, occasionally resulting in gene fixation or extinction. Humans are subject to such accepted Biological phenomenon just as all other species. The ability of humans to impact their environment does not mean that they have a realistic sense of control over it, nor does it in any way prevent the occurrence of mutations in them, so the pressures of natural selection still apply to them in the varied environments that they live across the world.…

Modern, industrialized society’s technological advancements and emphasis on material possessions, consumerism, and monetary success combine to disconnect people from their natural surroundings which encompasses all living and non-living things occurring naturally including the interaction of all living species, climate, weather, and natural resources that affect human survival and economic activity. Since the beginning of human (homo- sapiens) existence going back to the Pleistocene Epoch in the Cenozoic Era, humans have been consistently creating, developing, and evolving their means of technology and standard of living throughout time until now. Unfortunately, by doing so humans are furthering themselves form nature, but as Edward Abby, an…

With the never-ending life that these experimented humans may have for them will cause the world to run out of resources and bring the economy done with it. As well as, using babies as science experiments since this research is not a full compromise that it will promise such results since the human body is very complex. The worse part is the world will once again be divided between the rich and the poor, since only the poor will be able to receive these alterations to their genes. With technology advancing many things are uncertain, but putting a stop to the human race’s obliteration is something certain. Now it is the human’s turn to decide and allow technology to divide them, destroy them, and commence war or put an end to these harmful dangers. Once again, humans can decide to alter or personalize their perfect babies which later will leave a disastrous impact on the planet or allow their children to be born the way they were meant to…

The practice of making designer babies is wrong. To begin with designer babies wouldn’t make the human race thrive. When the gene pool of the most popular genes, then they are reducing the human gene pool. The variation of the gene is the cause of the human race to survive, the variation helps the humans withstand any diseases and other genetic problems. (Krimsky1)…

The human race has come a long way from the Stone Age, developing and improving until it is now able to make changes to even nature from minute achievements such as predicting the weather to controlling the weather itself one of which is among the numerous modifications to nature being made in recent times. Some other changes include genetically modified foods (G.M foods), Test tube babies and cloning to mention a few, which have changed the interaction pattern between nature and human beings as we are now able to alter occurrences that have been ongoing since the dawn of time which can be said to be an achievement to be proud of.…

One group accepts the path of human evolution and transformation, and Ray Kurzweil was one of them. I chose to read and evaluate an article called 'Human Evolution: New Playgrounds for Natural Selection'. This article was published on May 20th 2013, by Emmanuel Milot and Fanie Pelletier. This article was published in the 'current biology' journal volume 23, issue 10. I chose this article because it deals with natural selection, which was talked a lot about in Chapter one in our learning and behavior book. Over time a lot of change took place, and a lot of it was due to natural selection and how our bodies and traits changed over time to deal with the new challenges faced everyday. According to the New World Encyclopedia "Natural selection is the process by which biological organisms with favorable traits survive and reproduce more successfully…
