Humanization In The 21st Century

In today's media we can now put media attention on an individual, rather than just a service or product, and then turn that individual into various, lucrative opportunities. This has brought about a spout of celebrities and heiresses marked with the stigma of the infamous quote "famous for being famous." Nonetheless, stars like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian have an undeniable presence and influence among the fashion world, their audience, and even the press. With this apparent presence of the 21st Century celebrity, it has brought back a sort of revitalization of humanization in the industry. Humanization [in this context] means realizing that powerful, famous people do the same, if not similar, actions as an every day individual. Kim Kardashian is a perfect example of this revitalization.
Another example of this, could be the re-humanization of celebrities and their relationships amongst each other. Several months ago, Taylor Swift, Kardashian and Kardashian's husband [Kanye West,] ran into some conflict when Swift approved of a song lyric with her name, but then had her publicists tell the press that she had nothing to do with such a "misogynistic" line. Kardashian, being the social media giant she is, leaked a video of a phone call between West and Swift discussing and approving of the lyric. This media blunder was accompanied by the twitter hashtag #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty, meaning that public opinion on Swift was not too great because she got caught in a lie. So should we hold these celebrities up to these high pedestals or accept their mistakes, that is a difficult question society has been trying to answer following this revitalization in the industry.
