Humorous Wedding Speech: I Want To Become Vegetarian
Topic: EAT LESS MEAT

Opening/Attention:
The first time I told my Italian grandma that I was vegetarian, she started crying.
One day I was eating with her, and she made cabbage rolls..they were amazing! So I asked her: “Gradma, what did you put in it?” And she replied to me: “Don’t worry, honey, I know that you are vegetarian, so I just put veggies in it…and just a tiny little piece of mortadella to enhance the flavor..but don’t worry Marta, it is really a tiny piece!”
So, I decide to dedicate this speech to my grandma and my intention is to convince her and maybe someone else in the audience today that there are alternatives to meat, and that vegetarian people are not sick.

Spoken Link/Transition:
For my grandma’s happiness, I am not vegetarian

Closing/Call to Action:
I am not expecting everybody to become vegetarian right away. I am not even.
What I would like to obtain with my speech is to sensitize those people who do not even realize to eat meat every day. The first step of my success today will be to show you that alternatives to meat are available and that they are reasonable.
Canada’s Food Guide suggests eating 5 ounces of meat per day, for a woman our age, and 7.5 ounces for a man like you.
A Subway sandwich contains 6 ounces of meat. A Mc Donald’s cheeseburger has 4 ounces of meat. Usually a slice of bacon is 1 ounces. So, if you have eaten 2 or more of these combinations today you probably are already over the limit.
Yesterday, I went to a restaurant, on the menu they were offering smash potatoes with bacon, eggs with ham or bacon, sandwich with prosciutto, and a quiche with inside eggs and bacon.
Try to be a critic eater and start counting how much meat you eat per day. Do not suddenly eliminate all the meat from your diet. Try to substitute one meat dish per day with legumes, fish, soy, quinoa, broccoli, nuts or

The human population consumes meat on a daily basis, “… most of us have grown up eating animal products,” (Esselstyn) as asserted by Rip Esselstyn, composer of “The Engine 2 Diet”. The Vegetarian Myth, written by author Lierre Keith, tackles the ever-heated question: To eat animal products or not to eat animal products? I add the word “products,” after animal because the book should more properly be called the vegan myth. As a former vegan of over twenty years Keith comes from a place of experience, or as she might have it, a bitter experience. Feeling betrayed, in denial, and physically ill from her vegan years, she has made it her goal to reveal the truth and put to rest the Vegetarian notion that abstaining from animal products is the righteous path that is morally correct, will feed the hungry, and lead to greater nutrition. Chapter one, titled “Why This Book” will be the focus of this analysis because it gives an appropriate introduction to Keith’s…

In Laura Fraser’s passage, “Why I Stopped Being a Vegetarian,” the author compiles her personal motives and detachments on the controversial topic of vegetarianism. To make the essay more compelling, Fraser adds a touch of humor that transforms the writing into a light and whimsical piece. The passage, in turn, is positively impacted as the humor in Fraser’s essay relays an informal, personal tone that captures readers with the vernacular casualness of the style as well as appeals to a plethora of differentiating personality groups. Fraser’s humor in the essay also highlights the human’s mindset including the issues in our thought process and decision making.…

For the last two years, Sadie has been a vegetarian, which means she doesn't consume any meat but is still able to enjoy dairy products, like one of her favorites, cheese. This was not a hard transition for her, although she does miss chicken every now and then. So much so that she had a minor relapse when her grandfather bought her chicken nuggets from Wendy’s, without remembering she was a vegetarian. That was the last time she had chicken, and has remained vegetarian. Her boyfriend has even tried to adopt this lifestyle, but he was unsuccessful due to his love for meat. He is very accommodating when it comes to preparing meals or eating out. For example, when he is having an actual burger, he prepares her a veggie burger. While there has definitely been challenges in her choice of being a vegetarian, Sadie has kept up with it and she is proud of her choice.…

Living in the heart of the western American mountains, meat plays a big role in the generic lifestyle. Many families obtain their meats through recreational hunting, and fishing. Turning twelve in our community means that, you can now get your hunting license and go out with dad every weekend starting in September. It is safe to say that more than the majority of the families that live within the Bitterroot Valley consume a high percentage of meat, every day, for nutritional benefits as well as personal preference. It is the generic ‘western American’ thing to do, sit down with the family on a Sunday afternoon, say grace and eat a burger. One of the biggest holidays around, Thanksgiving, revolves around the harvesting, and consumption of meat. However there is another lifestyle that I feel is important to consider. If I could make a change in my community, big or small, I would choose to provide more vegetarian and vegan options for families to work into their lifestyles.…

Vegetarianism is the principle or practice of excluding all meat and fish, and sometimes, in the case of vegans, all animal products (such as eggs, cheese, etc) from one's diet (dictionary.com). Albert Einstein said, " I think the changes and purifying effects that a vegetarian diet have on a human being's disposition are quite beneficial to mankind. Therefore, it is both auspicious and peaceful for people to choose vegetarianism." Over the past few years, eating meat has been a majority choice, but people are unaware of how harmful meat actually is to the body. Although this is true, vegetarianism is a better alternative and should become universal for the good of animals, the environment, and also the human well- being. The effects of meat are immense. Cows, pigs, etc. who are raised for meat are slaughtered carelessly with no chance of living. These innocent animals are slaughtered only for one selfish purpose. While many grains are produced throughout the world to feed the cattle, soon to be slaughtered, there are many starving children begging for food. The final reason to become vegetarian is simple. The many health benefits vegetarianism offers is beyond imagination.…

There is always that time in our life were we ask ourselves “Could I actually be a vegetarian, could I actually go without eating meat, milk, cheese and all those yummy foods?” Well most people say they couldn’t do it, and I’m right there with them! Why on earth would I deprive myself of meat and many other delicious foods on PURPOSE? It is truly instinctual to crave and want meat, so why would we force ourselves to do otherwise? Not eating meat is unnatural and that’s not all; it’s ethically immoral, unhealthy, and economically in the wrong. It’s as simple as “Listen to your body.” And not eating meat, well, that’s definitely the contrary of listening to your body.…
