The Hunger Games
Chapters 1-5
1. I would describe District 12 geographically by being in the slumps. It is a poor place; therefore I compare it to a place of poverty.
2. Katniss crosses the gates to go hunting and she is able to get food to feed her family.
3. Gale is Katniss’ best friend and somewhat of a love interest.
4. The reaping is a lottery where someone is selected to participate in the hunger games. A boy and a girl are selected from each district. Katniss responds by putting her name in the lottery. When you do that, you receive something in return. When you are selected, you become a tribute. A tribute is when a boy or a girl is selected to participate in the hunger games.
5. Peeta helped Katniss by giving her bread from his bakery that he was going to throw away. She thinks it is a problem because she’s afraid he’ll remember who she is.
6. Haymitch is a drunk and he is the mentor to fight in the hunger games. He is going to help them use their best abilities to help them win. However, he doesn’t seem very dependable.

Reflection Question

1. The life in the Capitol is like living in the lap of luxury. Everything is handed to you and you can pretty much have anything you want. Every kind of food is basically given to you and is available. On the other hand, District 12 is the complete opposite. District 12 is the poorest of them all.

In Katniss’s mind she is determined to defy the Capitol and make them look ridiculous in the eyes of the entire country. The way the author portrays this scene in the book, proves that this was an act of defiance against the capitol, being that Katniss is not only brave but loyal to her district, and Peeta. Also being an act of survival, Katniss realizes she would rather die with Peeta other than survive and have him dead. They both knew they would not let the other die after they realized there could only be one victor, so they agreed to die together not having to live without the other.…
