Our will to survive and to keep fighting for what we believe in is the only reason that we all stand here today. But sometimes the burden falls upon the shoulders of those who cannot take it alone, they need someone to share the weight with. Suzanne Collins tells us that sometimes we need someone there by our side to help us see the cold nights through. Katniss made a promise that she would not have been able to keep if not for those who aided her through the horrific bloodshed that we know as The Hunger Games.
Rue
One of the contributing factors to Katniss’ continued survival within The Hunger Games was her alliance and friendship with Rue. When sitting up in the tree, Katniss was, for the first time, aided by Rue. If it was not for her, she would never have noticed the nest of the deadly Trackerjackers perched high upon the branches of her refuge. This revelation lead in turn to her escape and the retrieval of the bow which later on in the games saved her life several times. “Just this one time, I let you go. For the little girl.” Also this Quote made by Thresh highlights the fact that Rue, even in death was an invaluable ally to her, and in turn enabled Katniss to see Prim again.
Cinna
Although Cinna’s role in Katniss’ ability to survive the horrifying experience of the Hunger games is less prominent than one of Peeta or Haymitch, I believe that he still plays an important part in her performance within the Games. His ability to feel empathy towards those, like Katniss whom have been taken away from their home and forced to fight to the death, is the main reason I think that Katniss and Cinna share a close relationship. The scene in which Katniss first meets Cinna, we see that he is not like the other citizens of the capitol whom are devoid of any emotion towards the people that, they as the capitol, condemn to death. I believe that this attitude is the reason that he decide to move away
