Up early, the surface of the water was like glass, I unloaded the fly rod and headed back to the water with the dogs. Knowing that the prolific Utah Chub was a major food source in the reservoir, I tied a bunch of white and gold streamers in the weeks leading up to departure. I tied one on and made a couple casts, still targeting stumps and their roots. Just as the fly neared shore, a cutthroat shot out from under the stump and grabbed my fly. Unfortunately, it was a short lived flight as the fish shook its head and gained its freedom.…

Everyone loves the story of the underdog. In the J.R.R. Tolkien Lord of the Rings novels, the “Miracle on Ice” hockey game of 1980, and The Rocky boxing movie, we witness an underrated ‘little-guy’ taking down a much larger and more powerful threat. While there are many famous fictional stories of overcoming impossible challenges, the ones from real life moments are possibly the most famous and awe-inspiring. One such case is the American Revolution. With the entire war itself being a triumph over a much more powerful enemy, one battle in particular is truly known to show the mentality of “if there is a will, there is a way”. America’s history has been shaped by her people – ALL of her people. Until recently, the history books have managed to present a very one–sided view which conveys the impression that the deeds and actions which formed this great country were almost exclusively carried out by America’s white population. The worst part is that the vast majority of the people of the United States of America have bought it hook, line and sinker. The majority will continue to believe that history until the day they die because that is…
