They picking fruit and play. They were used now to stomach-aches and sort of chronic diarrhoea. They suffered untold terrors in the dark and huddled together for comfort.

They lost civilization because they have cried less for their mothers, aged, are used to stomach-aches and the runs, etc. They also lead their own intense life.

2. He picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry – threw it to miss. He isn’t used to being violent because round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law. Roger’s arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins. He is described as being a mean black hair boy with a gloomy face and made what had seemed at first an unsociable remoteness into something forbidding. He is using the metaphor to symbolize Roger and evil.
Golding say that “he was exercising control over living things?’ because he sees how Jack and Ralph have control over the other boys and he wants the same thing.

3. Masks are powerful objects because mask can not only hide you face but also your true identity. Jack shows this by painting his face and behind it he is evil and sadistic which he shows through the tribal dance. He feels powerful and liberated like he can do anything he wants while not thinking about more important things. (quote를 못찾겠서요)

4. He scolds Jack for hunting while he should have been watching the fire and he tells him he can’t even build a hut. This act symbolizes Jack’s true violent nature and that he is really just a bully.

5. I think Ralph has more power than Jack. Ralph find conch at first. The conch is the symbol of civilization, authority, power and order. At page 61, “They obeyed the summons of the conch, partly because Ralph below it, and he was pig enough to be a link with the adult world of authority; and partly because they enjoyed the entertainment of the assemblies.” And Jack gathers the hunters to reveal his new hunting strategy: using colored clay and charcoal to camouflage their faces. Jack commands all his hunters, including Samneric who are on fire-maintenance duty at the time, to join in a hunt. Ralph spots a ship in the distance and is confident that the ship's crew will spot the boys' smoke signal. But, unknown to Ralph, the fire has gone out, being left unattended. When Simon points out that there is no smoke, he and Ralph and Piggy hurry up the mountainside. By the time all three have reached the dormant fire site, the ship is gone. Meanwhile, Jack and his hunters are triumphant, marching up to the fire site with the carcass of a pig. Jack and Ralph face off about the desertion of the fire for the sake of the hunt. Jack apologizes but Ralph remains angry. Ralph says ‘I was chief; and you were going to do what I said. You talk.’ Lastly Ralph said no more, did nothing, and stood looking down at the ashes around his feet. Jack light a signal fire again with child. Jack loud and active. No one, not even Jack, would ask him to move and in the end they had to build the fire three yards away and in a place not really as convenient. So Ralph asserted his chieftainship.

Example1: Ralph thought Jack and children think light a signal fire doesn’t matter. Just important hunted pig. And they weren’t listen to Ralph advice. So Ralph give up the leader.
Example2: A ship pass by. 봉화를 제대로 올리지 않아서 배가 지나갔다. 그들은 배가 다시올거라는 확신이 없다.그래서 더 이상 봉화를 안올릴 것이다.
Example3: Jack이 사냥가는 바람에 봉화가 꺼졌다. ‘You didn’t ought to have let that fire out. You said you’d keep the smoke going-‘. This from piggy, and the wails of agreement from some of the hunters drove Jack to violence. Jack 은 자기보다 어린 Piggy 가하는 말을 어린애들은 옹호한다. 그래서 Jack을 난폭한 태도로 몰아간다. 이런게 계속 반복되서 Jack은 반항하고 분열이 일어날것이다.
