The combination of the world’s growing population and increased incidence of natural disasters proves that emergency response plans are needed to maintain civil order within both urban and rural areas. The Hurricane Ike Rapid Needs Assessment for the Houston area provides a quick estimation of the needs of the people at days 5 and 6 after the incident. The information gleaned from this assessment is to be used in establishment of personal needs cells, which provide food, water, electricity generators prioritized by medical needs, medicines, and other health maintenance items (toiletries). Many needs and issues…
The emergency responders that responded to Hurricane Katrina saved thousands of lives and hundreds of thousands of dollars in property. These men and women brought hope to a region devastated by one of the worst disasters in the history of the United States. However, the response to Hurricane Katrina was unsatisfactory by most people’s standards. This meager response greatly overshadowed the high-quality work that the emergency responders performed. The inadequate response can be attributed to each of the four different elements of an effective emergency response.…

As the 2 year anniversary of the devastation resulting from hurricane Katrina approaches and a new hurricane season gets underway. What can Americans living in coastal areas do to prepare? Careful consideration should be given not only to preparation for physical survival in the hurricane but also to how to survive in the aftermath of the storm. Hurricane Katrina caused 81.2 billion dollars in damages and an estimated 1,836 people lost their lives.…
During these hard times where Hurricane Harvey came to Texas where people were gathering to help them out with some food or other stuff we will not be needing, things that other people might need. Many people believe that most of us can not gather as one human race, but I think that we can because there are going to be some bad stuff that is going to happen in our community and maybe thought if us people get together will not be such a bad idea because most us come together as one. In my opinion we can come as one human race because in life people will need to get together in some point. For Example, when Hurricane Irma came to Florida people were gathering up and sending food for those in need. Hurricane Irma did come with all her force and destroyed many homes but this is where we come together and maybe ask for help or maybe stay at a friends house or go to a building where there is enough room for people to stay in and that is when the community comes in together as one.…
Have you ever wondered if storms were created by people? Well some scientists do. People in the United States believe that the President or the Government created storms. There was a recent study about whether they really did create the storms such as Hurricane Sandy. In August of 2008, The Telegraph reported that US scientists “believe they can weaken the strength of tropical storms and steer them off course using a range of methods that include spraying fine particles into hurricanes or cooling the seawater in areas where they form.” October 30th US NEWS had published a “conspiracy theory” that alleged Obama had used HAARP to engineer Hurricane SANDY in order to guarantee his re-election to a second term.…
I unequivocally believe that I am a commendable candidate for the Congressional Internship Program. I currently hold a 3.94 GPA at Tarleton State University and I am or a part or a previous member of many…
Last week, Super storm Sandy tore up the East Coast, leaving a path of immeasurable destruction and devastation in its wake. In addition, while many are still reeling and searching for necessities, we are reminded that some challenges like not having access to gas, water, electricity and damage to houses get resolved as soon as possible. It is imperative that we change these problems and fix them. That is why people like the American Cancer Society, ConEdison and volunteers are here around the clock to offer those facing trials and tribulations the information and support they continue to need. As New Yorkers, we will fight to the finish to make sure everything will be in tiptop shape again.…

I am excited to possibly have a chance to intern with your organization this summer. I came across the Tippecanoe Watershed Foundation while searching for internships close to my hometown of North Webster, Indiana. I believe that The Watershed’s work, along with my coursework and background in the North Webster area, make The Watershed an ideal place for me to intern at. I think that this would be a great opportunity for me to work in the community I grew up in, with the lakes I grew up around.…
Over the last few years Florida has had many Hurricanes. Thank God they haven't resulted in that many casualties. Casualties can be avoided though, if everyone followed the National Hurricane Center's instructions on how to prepare for a hurricane than many of those casualties can be prevented. Its isn't that hard to be prepared for a hurricane, there are only a few supplies needed and it only costs a few dollars for what you need, Personally I would rather spend a few dollars on supplies than have to spend thousands of dollars for hospital bills or worse death.…
