    * One of the unique features of a hybrid is that when you first put your foot on the gas pedal to get started from a stopped position, the electric motor is the first thing to engage. The advantage to this is that this is also the point in standard engines where they pollute the most. Also, a hybrid Camry engine shuts off when stopped so no fuel is burning and producing green-house gases. Because of these features, emissions from a hybrid can decrease by as much as 90 percent.…

With the evolution of hybrid vehicles some consumers have made a commitment to affect the environment in a very positive way. A hybrid car is a vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power. Cities like Seattle have public busses that run on diesel but are also electric and powered by wires throughout the city. Once away from these wires, the diesel engine starts to function as a second contributor to the movement of the bus, but the electric engine is mainly functioning throughout the lifespan of these public busses. This system produces a minimum amount of negative carbon released into the atmosphere. Although cities have adopted this requisite, people are starting to adjust to it as well. Not only does owning a hybrid vehicle benefit the future, but also getting extraordinary mileage to the gallon is economical.…

While everyone acknowledges that it is a very efficient car, the question is whether or not it is worth it, due to the vary environmentally damaging processes that must undergo to produce it [4]. One of the main points in this debate is that the batteries, the things that make a hybrid efficient, are extremely polluting and dangerous, and the mining methods used to acquire the lead and other materials is a very environmentally degrading process [4]. With two distinct sides there is now a heated debate between petrol-heads and…

A hybrid vehicle is one that combines the best features of two different energy sources, one of which is electric power. The three vehicle I would choose is a Ford Escape, Chevrolet Tahoe, and a Honda Insight. Hybrid are a viable option than other cars because owner will never have to buy gasoline. Also, driving a hybrid is good for pollution levels. There are no emissions to harm the environment.…

Thesis Statement: The government and certain car manufacturing companies shouldn’t be promoting energy conserving vehicles as zero emissions vehicles because 1) the process of manufacturing electric cars pollutes the environment; 2) recharging the car uses a tremendous amount of fossil fuels; 3)The cost to manufacture an electric and hybrid vehicle is tremendous.…

While there are many different kinds of hybrid cars, they all share one common trait: a traditional, gasoline-powered motor and a new electric, battery-powered motor are both found within the vehicles. These vehicles use both motors at different times when on the go: the electric motor powers the vehicle when going less than 40 miles per hour, while the gas motor powers the vehicle at speeds greater than 40 miles per hour. While the functions of both motors may seem unimportant to some, consider stop-and-go rush hour traffic. Not only does the electric motor reduce smog levels due to its exhaust-free trait, but it also helps to save gasoline that is wasted when frequently pressing the accelerator. Another plausible scenario to consider is living in a small town where the speed limit rarely exceeds 40 miles per hour; traveling through these towns on electric energy can save gallons of gas, giving our wallets time to become more plump between each visit to the pump. The efficiency of…

Gasoline powered vehicles are better! No, hybrids are better! Have you heard these two points-of-view? This last election, the question of energy was a part of both party’s platforms. They talked about wind and solar versus coal and oil, and gasoline versus hybrid vehicles. So here we are, the election is over, but the battle between a gasoline powered vehicles versus a hybrid continues. You might know someone who owns a hybrid car. My uncle bought one in 2006 and for him it works great, but he usually just travels back and forth to work. However, my uncle’s needs are not the same as my dad who is a contractor. In the end, you need to weigh the pros and cons before deciding on which vehicle is best for you. After much research, it is my opinion that a gasoline powered car is better than a hybrid for these reasons: purchase and repair costs, towing and passenger/cargo capacity, and the cars impact on the environment.…

Hybrid cars are controversial today because the hybrid cars still burn gasoline and emit greenhouse gases and they still have to use gasoline to power the battery. The hybrid only adds efficiency to the gasoline engine, instead of replacing it entirely. The hybrid car remains as a major emitter of pollution. While it may contribute less to global warming, it still contributes significantly. If people keep switching to hybrids over time yes the contribution towards global warming will less eminent, but it will still continue to pollute the…

It is common knowledge that environmental problems are getting worse every day. For a long time now, generations have been partially negligent about these issues. The world is the house of humanity: if we make our best to keep our houses clean and tidy, why not doing the same thing with our planet? In my opinion, hybrid cars are a huge component of the future of environmental awareness. Petrol cars should be replaced for hybrid cars. These cars are not only fuel efficient, but also they are much cleaner than normal vehicles (lesser CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions). A hybrid car uses two energy sources for its functioning: it does use gasoline, but in a much smaller amount, thanks to an electric motor, which exists for acceleration. It is true that the electricity used to charge electric vehicles comes from a source that emmits CO2, but this CO2 production is aproximately one-half of a combustion vehicle. Then, hybrid cars are not only a way to reduce polution, but also a way to avoid the crisis after the peak oil (a peak oil is the point in time when, after the maximum rate of petroleum extraction is reached, it declines). By making the petroleum industry dispensable, the planet would have even more advantages. First of all, oil extraction is costly. Oil spills have made huge damages on environment for years, and the planet was obliged to spend thousands of dollars in that account. Reducing spending in oil industry would allow investing in newer and safer fuels.…

A hybrid car, also known as an HEV or hybrid electric vehicle, is an automobile that is powered by two sources; an internal combustion engine, and an electric motor. HEV’s need plugs, as they are amply charged by the movement of the wheels and storing the kinetic energy that is generated through a process called regenerative braking. cars have been accepted as a solution to the current pollution problems that we face, as they offer lower emissions than gasoline automobiles. Some hybrid cars produces around 90% less pollutants than regular cars. With cars with this system, a hybrid car can cross longer distances than normal ones with less use of gasoline. They can get up to 55-60 mpg in city driving, while a typical SUV might travel just 15-20 mpg. Also there are 2 types of cars: the first type is the series, and the second type is called the parallels…
