The battle between the three states Georgia, Alabama, and Florida about water rights within the Flint River Watershed has led to the decline of the important watershed. The debates started when Lake Lanier was created for water benefits, such as hydropower and flood control. However, once Georgia started using the lake as a source of drinking water, Alabama and Florida became enraged, and the current day argument was initiated. Experts state that if the three states continue to argue over water rights instead of protecting the environment and its inhabitants, the region that the watershed encompasses will endure significant and permanent damage. The focus of the disputes between the states have mainly focuses on the Chattahoochee River. The…

All in All, Mud, River, Stone by Lynn Nottage, was truthfully the most eye-opening experience in theater I have ever had the great privilege to be a part of, a realistic look at the way our society views foreign problems but also how we deal with them in retrospect to ourselves once again making the very loud statement that if it doesn’t directly affect us then it doesn’t necessarily matter. I am beyond pleased at our very successful run from February 11th-Feburary 14th not only for the work that we did as a cast but also for successfully turning the mirror in so our audiences could see out.…

The texts, “Undaunted Courage” and “The Way To Rainy Mountain” depict the land as a spiritual entity that’s worth being worshipped and respected as shown by man’s praise of it. The way man, rather than exploit it for profit, respects the land through animism shows their gratitude for it. From the detailed descriptions that give the reader an illustration of what man has seen, it is clear to say that man had this religious relationship again, but was also in tune with the lay of the land.…

We all have flaws and insecurities that continue to linger amount us in our lives. What we sometimes tend to forget is with the discrepancies we dwell on, they may very well give us strength and become a positive feature in the long run. Throughout this novel, you see many themes of friendship, love, hate, and war. However, I believe this novel articulates an underlying theme of the struggle between encompassing the power of being different versus the agony and pain of it in societal structures such as Burgdorf. Hegi shows many instances where Trudi’s difference goes beyond her physical difference of being a Zwerg, but also noting her intellectual difference. It is because Trudi’s life has shaped her and has made her unique. Ultimately, the benefit outweighs the tragedy.…

    • 11 Pages

Shearwater Adventures is an adventures tour operator in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. It specializes in rafting, canoeing, and kayaking on the Zambezi River. This river is the fourth largest river in the African continent. The company grew to dominate the “Adventure” market in Victoria Falls. As a result of this expansion, Shearwater Adventures became the most well known adventure-tour operator in the continent of Africa. This expansion occurred while the company was under the leadership of Robert Allen who joined Shearwater ten years ago. He began as a photographer with friend Mark Davis taking pictures and videos of the rafting trips. He went on to become Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after Davis’ departure. Shearwater was number one in the market. Regardless of their dominance in the Victoria Falls area and their position as leaders in the market, Shearwater adventures had to face the competition. They had to continue dominating while maintaining their reputation as a successful and profitable outdoor adventures operators. To achieve their established goals, Allen Roberts and his management team created different strategies in order to compete efficiently and to maintain their leader position.…

The dream thinks itself is god. Coyote is only amused thinking the dream is a dog that gets everything backwards. A frequently asked question in this book is “why is there water everywhere”. There are four main characters in this novel; Lone ranger, Ishmael, Robinson Crusoe and Hawkeye, they all escaped from a mental institution. All these men are Native American Elders. Not since Heat (Pacino, DeNiro, Kilmer) has a "good guy versus bad guy" movie had you rooting for both sides of such an elegantly shot and authentically acted film about justice and loyalty. Hell or High Water is impressively robust with clever, dialogue-driven suspense!! Chris Pine is convincing as beautifully country and rather James Dean at times. I cannot rave more about the cast, screenplay, and cinematography. It is a well-told story about brothers, family, loyalty, justice, grit, good guys, bad guys, and sacrifice with some funny lines and hefty action along the bad guys' epic plan, which is also the good guys' pursuit. I forecast this as nominee for a Best Picture, Chris…

Urbanization is the process that leads to an increase in the number and proportion of people living in urban settlements such as cities or towns. It also refers to the increase in the size of land area occupied by urban settlements. To cope with urbanization within a drainage basin, urban development and deforestation are carried out, which affect flows to and within a river channel. Other factors like drainage density, climate, area of drainage basin and gradient of slope can also affect flows to and within a river channel. Flows to and within a river channel also include overland flow, infiltration, through flow and base flow. Overland flow is the movement of rainwater over land. It occurs when either the storm is too heavy for water to infiltrate into the soil, where the soil is impermeable or when the soil has become saturated. Infiltration is the downward movement of water through tiny pores in the soil. Through flow is the water reaching the river through the soil and the underlying rock layers. Base flow is the water stored at a depth in rocks.…

    Catchment Area Analysis

    • 8097 Words
    • 33 Pages

Catchment analysis is originally a study to identify an ideal location for establishment of a new retail outlet but it can be helpful to identify potential customer base in any geographical area for existing retail outlets. This study includes study about various geo-demographic factors like occupation, mother tongue, education standard etc. and help in understanding customer preferences, accessibility in buying, purchase intentions buying patterns and likelihood of buying for the group of products that the retailer deals with and level of competition in that area. The final outcome of catchment area analysis provides the retailer an idea about number of customers who can visit the store and kind of products that will be in demand and the stock he need to maintain in order to meet the demand in selected location. Importance of catchment can be seen in the point that if all retail companies are offering same products and services within same price range and quality standards than we can easily say that the population within the catchment will do all its purchasing at the nearest centre. However in practicality it‟s not possible that different retail companies are same and people have to travel to their preferred destination for purchasing instead of their nearest one. Differences between similar stores can affect the spending pattern in the present time, but it is important to see how changes in various demographic factors and infrastructure development in competing locations will have impact on such store in future. Catchment analysis pre launch will ideally decide the product mix and formats of the stores, catchment analysis done from time to time will give information about what is happening and where to concentrate marketing energies to get more walk-ins. The total catchment area, of a store is useful information to decide a store location and post store opening marketing energies focus. The…

Alluvial fans are cone-shaped to arcuate in plan view, with network of branching distributary channels. The long profile, from fanhead to fantoe, is commonly concave upward; the greatest slope occurs at the fan apex and decreases down the fan. The transverse or cross-fan profile is generally convex upward. Alluvial fan sediments are dominated by gravely deposits, which typically show down-fan decease in grain size and bed thickness and an increase in sediment sorting.…

    Hydrology

Hydrology is an essential field of science since everything from tiny organisms to individuals to societies to the whole of civilisation depends so much on water. Water is, therefore, an essential resource that is required by all life on earth and covers about 70% of the earth surface. Hydrologists all over the world use scientific knowledge and mathematical principles to mitigate water- related problems in society and environmental protections. More specifically hydrologist studies the chemical properties, biological interactions and the physical processes.…

SEDIMENTARY BASINS - AN INTRODUCTION Definition of a sedimentary basin: A sedimentary basin is an area in which sediments have accumulated during a particular time period at a significantly greater rate and to a significantly greater thickness than surrounding areas. (Compare with physiographic basin - a depression in the surface of the land or sea-floor that may or may not be infilled with sediments). Sedimentary basins of one type or another today cover about 70% of the Earth's surface and contain sediment thicknesses that range from about a kilometer to several 10's km. Some basins are geologically young others have existed for 100's million years. Investigations of sedimentary basins have been the result of collaboration between the different disciplines within the Earth Sciences: where geophysics, geochemistry, structural geology, stratigraphy and sedimentology have all played an important part. A major breakthrough was the plate tectonic paradigm, which allowed basins to be classified according to a unifying geodynamic theory. The driving mechanisms of subsidence are ultimately related to processes within the relatively rigid, cooled thermal boundary layer of the Earth known as the lithosphere. The lithosphere is composed of a number of tectonic plates that are in relative motion with one another. The relative motion produces deformation concentrated along plate boundaries which are of three basic types: • • • Divergent boundaries Convergent boundaries Transform boundaries…
