PRAGMATISM
Meaning and Definition of Pragmatism:-
The word ‘pragmatism’ is derived from the Greek word ‘Pragmatism’ which means ‘Practice’. Professor Arnand Reid gives his opinion about Pragmatism as “activity, engagement, commitment and encounter.” These are regarded as the ‘central theme’ of this school of education. Pragmatism is that school of philosophy which does not believe in the idea of pragmatism remained neglected for many years but now this idea or the American school of thought has come dot stay. The word is now beige frequently used and many of us have adopted this philosophy. The chief profounder of this philosophy are William James and Johbn Dewey, They belonged to United States of America In the words of William James, “Pragmatism is a temper of mind, an attitude, it is also a theory of the nature of ideas and truth and finally, it is a theory about reality.” In the words of Ross “Pragmatism is essentially a humanistic philosophy, maintaining that man creates his own values in course of activity, that reality is still in making and awaits part of its complexion for the future that to an unascertainable entrant our truth are manmade products.”
According to James Prett, “Pragmatism offers us a theory of meaning, a theory of truth, a theory of knowledge and a theory of reality.” In the words
