hygiene
Dental hygiene is a dynamic and challenging career that offers team work, personal growth, fulfillment and extraordinary benefits, and it is the perfect career for me. Good qualities for a dental hygienist are compassion and enjoying caring for people; two qualities that fit my personality. I love the thought of knowing I can have a positive impact on a person's health. I have worked as a dental assistant the majority of my working years, so I understand what it takes to become a dental hygienist. I have learned through my work experiences the importance of team work, customer service, patient care, and the intricacies of a dental office. I understand the importance of team work in this profession with my colleagues and I have collaborated to improve work flow efficiency while delivering quality patient care. I have worked with a wonderful team of highly skilled professionals that took the time to challenge and encourage me to follow my dream of becoming a dental hygienist.

My desire to enter the field of dentistry has grown as I’ve participated with professional oral health care providers in the field and observed a wide range of procedures. My interest in dentistry began early on as I was involved in orthodontics for three years before ending up with a beautiful smile. I gained a deep appreciation and understanding of what people in need of such services are experiencing, as well as a great respect and admiration for the professionals of that field. Through the practice of dentistry I desire to have a positive supportive impact on the lives of those I serve, just as I have experienced in my own life through my oral healthcare providers. I also desire to be a hard-working, contributing member of the community striving to provide utmost quality care, and I feel that the field of dentistry working in the capacity as a dental hygienist will afford me such opportunities. Having worked with people all my life, there is nothing more I would rather do. The

While we waited for the doctor to prepare for his surgery, one of the hygienists, Karen, let us into her operatory to observe her scaling a patient’s teeth. She showed us a couple of instruments she loves and gave us some tips on working in private practice. She told us about how she and some other hygienists get together in a “study group” for continuing education. An interesting thing she told us is that Dr. Stanley Malamed was one of her professors at USC so she invited him to Utah to speak to several dentists in the area in two weeks.…
