Traditionally hypnotherapy has been used when there is no direct cause for a problem. Therefore it can be applied to anything (anxiety, depression, insomnia, ptsd etc.). It's primary focus is on the subconscious mind, meaning thoughts you are not aware of that influence your actions and feelings. Smoking cessation, for example, can be achieved with hypnotherapy- smokers know it is unhealthy, but with time the dangers become almost irrelevant to the user.
