Hypothesis-Based Study Process

The criteria for a hypothesis-based scientific study involves a few steps that should be followed in order. First, an observation is made and then a question should be posed about the observation that can be tested and possibly proved false. Next, we can make a hypothesis or educated guess about the result cause of the problem. We can then make a prediction on what may fix the issue. The final step would be to test our prediction to find the conclusion.

The difference between a scientific based study and an everyday useage of hypothesis is first, that most of us aren't in the science field so we use it in simpler terms. In a true scientific study, the hypthesis is used in a more controlled atmosphere, and there is time to test and retest the experiment to make sure the outcome is correct. An example of this would start as something as simple as watching the morning news before work. While watching the news, the show does the morning trafiic watch. I see that the main highway between home and work has an accident on it that is really backing up traffic. So, I would pose the question to myself 'What would be the best route to go to still get to work on time?". I make an educated guess based on the information given on the news and the time I know it takes to get to work. I then predict that it would take just as long to get to work going through the accident as it would to take side streets with lights.
