O’Neill has aided many students into getting the good education that they want. Students from Hartford are able to go to places like Glastonbury for their education because of this case. Although this case has been working, it still needs improvement. CtMirror.org states, “The desegregation of Hartford schools has been taking place for the last 20 years and there are changed to be celebrated and others that merit further inquiry.” One problem with this case has been the amount of time it has taken. 20 years to integrate schools is uncanny. The process has taken an extensive time and needs to speed up. Schools still, after 20 years are not fully…

Pryor raises complaint against the NCAA’s decision to adopt Proposition 16 to purposefully improve graduation rates among black student athletes. Proposition 16 is a neutral policy that requires incoming freshman that want to participate in NCAA athletics to maintain certain requirements as a high school graduate. These standards under Proposition 16 include the number of core classes raised from 11 to 13, an additional two elective courses, completion of four years of English compared to three, and a sliding scale for SAT/ACT scores combined with a student’s GPA that follows accordingly, the…

On June 23rd 2016, the judges of the supreme court gathered to analyze a challenge about the University of Texas of Austin’s race-conscious admissions program. This case, known as Fisher II v. The University of Texas, was brought about when senior Abigail Fisher applied to the University of Texas and did not get in. She was not accepted in the top ten percent program as well( a program in Texas Law stating that top ten percent students from all schools in Texas get automatic admission into UT Austin), and firmly believed that she had the academic status to get in. She implied that the fact that she was white and had a good financial status reduced her chances of admission into the university and that she was heavily racially discriminated.…

Students enrolled at community college are lost high school graduates and employees seeking to gain certain skills is the minor persuasiveness found in the argument. This statement is persuasive due to the audience of a select few higher class individuals, whom probably never attended community college. Farrington opens the readers to categorize community college students within these two stereotypes. The lack of morals demonstrated in his approach to stereotyping, reveals an ad hominem fallacy. The biased tactic of bullying to get his way leaves readers disgusted by Farrington’s stereotypical remarks. More or less, Farrington unsuccessfully argued his way into an abysmal ending with his personal attacks. If personal accounts of students continuing towards a university but were confined by financial obligations was stated, a more intelligent, unbiased argument could have been…

Smith and Mr. Garcia, the turbulence may be moderate. They have already expressed concern to Mr. Pike that students that enroll from New City are underprepared for college work, even if they were in the top ten of their high school. By not having the mandate in place, the college wouldn’t have a reason to admit students of color for diversity purpose to maintain funding. This would give the college an incentive not to admit as many students of color into the college, causing even more of a problem for the student coordinators of the minority student outreach and Step Up program. Without the Supreme Court requiring that students of color be admitted into the program, there may be a drastic decrease in student admissions and the Step Up program would have a drastic cut minority enrollment. If the college recruit the targeted student population of educationally and economically disadvantaged students, regardless of their race or ethnicity, the program shouldn’t be in danger of becoming…

“Graduating with six figures ' worth of debt is becoming increasingly common.” (179) In the essay “Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission” Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus discussed about how the price of college education is increasing, while the quality of some teachers is decreasing. In December 1973 the plaintiff, Robert Steinberg, applied for admission to the defendant, the Chicago Medical School, as a first-year student for the academic year 1974--75 and paid an application fee of $15. The Chicago Medical School is a private, not-for-profit educational institution, incorporated in the State of Illinois. His application for admission was rejected and Steinberg filed a class action against the school, claiming that it had failed to evaluate his application and those of other applicants according to the academic entrance criteria printed in the school 's bulletin. Specifically, his complaint alleged that the school 's decision to accept or reject a particular applicant for the first-year class was primarily based on such nonacademic considerations as the *806 prospective student 's familial relationship to members of the school 's faculty and to members of its board of trustees, and the ability of the applicant or his family to pledge or make payment of large sums of money to the school. The complaint further alleged that by using such unpublished criteria to evaluate applicants the school had breached the contract, which Steinberg contended was created when the school accepted his application fee.…

After reading, annotating, and analyzing the following article, “Petition to Waive the University mathematics Requirement”, I concluded to say No to his request. I don’t think that Mr. Adams should be exempted from taking the math requirements because of several reasons. First, his arguments presents that the college drops a class that is required for everyone that is in the same major as him. This is not reasonable because this challenges the very system of assessing classes to students. If they waive this class for him, any student can present a case in which they would want their class to be exempt. Also there is a flaw with his argument. In the 2nd paragraph Mr. Adam states, “If forced to comply with ASU’s algebra requirement, I will be needlessly preventing from graduating in time to enter law school next fall and face an idle academic year before my next opportunity in 1994.” (Adam, par2). However, Mr. Adam says something that contradicts his former statement in paragraph 11, “In fact, I am more than willing to substitute another course or two in its place. I am not trying to get out of anything hard or distasteful, for that is certainly not my style.” (Adams par.11). He stated that this math course would delay his graduation, but says a few paragraphs later that he would rather substitute this math course for something that is “useful” towards his career.…

Despite popular belief, Harvard College was first founded, as an institution of higher learning in America is 1636; over one hundred years before the New England colonies officially became states (Masci). This is an example of how important education has been, and still is to this country today. Harvard, a liberal arts college, was also founded over one hundred years before the first state university, making liberal arts colleges far more experienced in the education of its’ students.…
