In spirit and in practice, America was open to those seeking the chance at a better life. The reality is quite different today. The process of immigration is long, tedious - and quite simply out of reach for many who aspire to live and work here. This happened gradually but deliberately. Today, immigration is feared by many Americans because immigrants threaten their job security.…
Harry Truman once said “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” The America I believe in is strong, powerful, and relentless. America is Beautiful. My home is steady and unbroken, and nothing can take that away from me.…
Isn’t America just great? Beautiful heavens, even buildings. Nope, America is a great place for the most part but at the same time, it is a bad place. America is full of bad people but it is also full of good people.…
Ever since this country was first discovered and settled, people from countries all over the world left their homelands and migrated to the “New World”. People from Spain, Germany, France, England and Asia traveled great distances to reach a new land of opportunity, to perhaps escape religious persecution or tyrant rulers. For centuries America has been viewed as a place for a fresh start, a place where anybody can come and begin a new life and follow their hopes and dreams. Even today people come to America for the exact same reasons that they did all those years before. However unlike the immigration of our ancestors, the immigrants of today aren’t able to just come here and do what they want without anybody noticing. Today most people view immigration as a problem to the United States. One of the most easily recognizable groups of today’s immigrants comes from Mexico. The Mexican immigrants often come here for better economic and living opportunities than they had at home. But no matter how much these immigrants want to better their lives for themselves and their families, most Americans feel that they are trouble and a drain on our resources. Despite what many think, the Mexican immigrants are helping our nation. The immigrants take many low end jobs that Americans do not want or are over qualified for, they can also boost our economy with the money they earn from working, and they diversify the nation. Immigration does and will contribute to a better America.…
I’m always in awe at people who claim how great The United States is and how they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. If you say anything bad about America, people tend to respond with ‘’If you don’t like America then leave”. Translation: Criticizing our country by pointing out the flaws and wanting to fix them is ridiculous. But I cut them some slack because they wouldn’t be speaking so positively about America if they had any idea about what’s going in this god forsaken country. If you have no clue what’s really happening here and you’d love to know. Well, it’s your lucky day because you are about to find…
The “founding fathers” of this country, had a different Idea of what it took to be an American. Through slave labor, prejudice, and an unjust government, things went bad quickly. Remnants of all of that still exist today. I think being an American should be about helping one another. Doing whatever it takes to make sure that EVERYONE’s rights are kept. For some reason, I don’t think this will ever come to be, when we live in a world where people fear what they don’t understand. Instead of a “live and let live” country, we have a government that constantly tries to dictate what we should do, because they feel they know what’s best. If everyone could focus on their version of the American Dream, and stop creating obstacles for others, I believe this country would be in a better place.…
I personally believe everyone has a shot at living such vibrant and free lives, yet America can only take in a significant amount of people before it becomes overwhelming to our economy. We don’t know what kind of background the other people have. What if there is a family all the way from North Korea that wanted to live in this country because they didn’t get fed or they just hated their dictator? If we let them in, they could take some of the jobs that no one wants to work, and help out the country’s economy. It could also help us understand the other countries a lot better than we do now because each person has their own backstory and we can learn things from other people’s lives.…
The America I believe in is the land of the free and the home of the brave. I think America is the most magnificent country in all the world. This country is the best because we are free, we have different job opportunities, and other opportunities for new life. I think everyone would want an opportunity to live here if they knew just how great it really is. We Americans need to be thankful, we are privileged enough to live in a country such as this one, the freest country in the world.…
The United States of America is branded as the land of opportunities and a place where anyone can come and make a better life for themselves. Which is why many people choose to immigrate to the U.S. the Center for American Progress reports that “The foreign-born population consisted of 40.7 million people in 2012. Broken down by immigration status, the foreign-born population was composed of 18.6 million naturalized U.S. citizens and 22.1 million noncitizens in 2012. Of the noncitizens, approximately 13.3 million were legal permanent residents, 11.3 million were unauthorized migrants, and 1.9 million were on temporary visas”(2014). There are some people who think that immigrants are bad for this country because they supposedly come and take American peoples jobs and they get help from the government costing tax payers a lot of money. There are people now like the presidential candidate Donald Trump who believe that Immigrants from Mexico are “Bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists” (Trump, 2015). Trump is proposing building a real border to keep illegal immigrants out.…
Most people would agree that being an American is living in the United States, but it is also more than that. It’s the feeling of freedom. Immigrants come to America because they want a better life for themselves and their families. Our country is great because citizens have many privileges that other countries don’t. Also, Americans are different, but get to live in the same country together. The American Identity is composed of working hard to live how you wish to live, standing up for your beliefs to make positive change, and coexisting peacefully with friends, family, and neighbors. This lifestyle was one of the many pull factors for immigrants in other countries.…
America is and will continue to be the best place to live. With her freedom and beauty she offers many opportunities and experiences that one would not find in any other place. Anyone that has the privilege to live here is responsible for doing his part to keep this county…
The America I believe in has very hard working people with good work ethics and attitudes. Did you know that scientists once did a study and it showed that America is the hardest working country in the world? Americans are prided on the fact that they don’t quit no matter what circumstances. We just…
I believe that it is the people's responsibility to help make America better. For example doing little thing like picking up trash, helping people when they need it, helping out injured animals and big things like helping police with a criminal when they're having trouble with it, or when someone is struggling with something go help them, or joining the military service, I don't think of it as something to just go and join just…
We can’t deny this, but we can say that we try. We try to help others. We have our freedom of speech, which may seem like a small thing, but some citizens in different countries unfortunately do not. We have choices and opportunities all across America; we can choose what items we buy from stores, our medical providers, and we can settle down in this country anywhere we want, making us extremely lucky for these benefits. In conclusion, you can see that America is not a country bound by race or religion, but by the shared values of freedom, liberty, and equality…
Though it is undeniable that immigration benefits America in many different ways, however, it is not fair to let illegal immigrants come freely as they receive benefits that citizens and legal immigrant are paying for. There should not be a limit to how many immigrants are allowed to travel to America as long as they meet all the standards and requirements. The reason why the number of illegal immigrants is high is due to them not being able to obtain legal access to America. With this being said, America should simplify the process for legalization and make it more realistic, but enough to the point where the safety of citizens is still…
