I Have News For You By Tony Hoagland
Poetry has long been a unique art form throughout much of civilization. Poems can be found dating back all the way to ancient Greece. It is hard for me to imagine poems written even hundreds of years ago having impact on the world, but they still do. Poems can offer unique perspectives into lives at varying times across human history. This is true even to this day; poems written now will one day become the poems of the future. These poems will serve as a window into early 21st century life which is amazing to think about, however, this is not all that poems can do. They can also speak on century old truths which may even be part of human nature. Meaning that a poem written in the 1600’s can still have a strong meaning 400 years later.

He writes about various things that he has seen which immediately made him think of symbolism of everyday events. This passage serves as an introduction into the mind of the author, and the minds of people who think similarly. For example, the author writes that, “There are people who do not see a broken playground swing; as a symbol of ruined childhood.” (1294). In this the author is displaying how he sees the world, and what symbolism he sees in everyday events. The opening also sets up what type of reader the author is writing to. The author is writing to people who think similarly to him, because as the title of the poem implies he is writing this as though it is new knowledge: not everyone sees symbolism wherever they go. Another interesting thing to note is that the author only uses one form of punctuation in this section just one period. This makes the whole opening flows together into one thought, rather than being broken up into more diverse ideas, meaning that the reader can fly through the opening, and be enveloped into the

It should be understood that symbolism can have meaning outside the story. The author could be relating to him or herself, which means that symbolism could mean anything to the author. But, that means it can be hard understand, as you don’t have the same experience as the author but there will probably be something in the passage that hints to the authors meaning, queuing you to understand the…

I feel that poetry has often been a vehicle for political statements, and could be an important way for society to examine and express social injustices. poem tells a story within its words, even if it is not directly stated. Nearly every word and phrase in a poem, and even its punctuation has a meaning and a message that the author is trying to send across to the reading or listening audience. Not always is it easy to immediately understand what the poet is trying to say, but within the words and punctuation, over time and with analysis, interpretation is possible. Poetry is a group of so many words that a poet carefully chooses to show certain meaning. The song " Every Grain of Sand" that is written by Bob Dylan deserves to be called poetry because of his careful use of tone, symbolism, allusion, simile and enjambments.…

Poetry is a form of literary art, which uses the aesthetics and rhythmic qualities of words to conjure up meanings in addition to, or in place of, the simple ostensible meaning. It uses many forms, such as ballads, sonnets, and odes, to suggest differences and variation in the interpretation of words, or to evoke emotive responses. They were, are, and will be important to us, as a culture or religion, and even as a school. People usually write poetry for themselves, for someone in particular, in the belief that we all share experiences in common, or to convince and inform others about something. Poetry is vital language, which relies on the writer's feelings, history and perceptions, so every person has the background needed to write poems. Poetry describes our cultural identity through meaning and the way it was written as well.…

    The Art of Poetry

When one thinks about poetry the first thing you may think about is the complexity of poetry. Typically I think people are afraid of literary works such as poetry and dismiss poetry because they find it to be too complicated. Many people don't like to read things that actually require them to think about the text and deem them complicated because they don’t want to take the time to see what the author is trying to say. However, if they were to take their time and dissect the poem they would find that poetry isn't as complicated as it seems. They may also see the beauty in poetry and that no matter who you are there is a poem somewhere you can relate to. Poetry is not straightforward and that is one of the things I personally love about it because of its depth, which I find beautiful. Even the most haunting poems I feel are still beautiful because of the way they are written especially with the use of imagery, metaphors, and similes. So to me poetry is an art form just as a paintings, songs, or films are art forms. Its a way to express feelings and emotions that have been evoked by some moment in ones life. Just as a song or film, poetry is complex and could mean something different to each person that reads it.…
