Speaker: The voice of the story “I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings” in the chapter “Champion of The World” is a little African American girl named Maya Angelou. From the research I have done it seems that she is around the age of 6 or 7 years old; do to the fact that Joe’s victorious fight against Carnera was in the year 1935 and Maya was born in 1928. The majority of the African American race in these times of history were the lowest group of people in the American society but they were jus a bit higher then apes.
Occasion: The time and place of Maya’s experience of the victorious fight between the Joe Louis “Brown Bomber” and Primo Carnera. Took place on the night of June 25, 1935 in the state of Arkansas at uncle Willie’s store. Every relative …show more content…
and friend were gathered around the radio trying to listen to what the announcer was telling them about the fight.
Audience: The group of people that Maya was trying to get their attention the most were all the African American race.
Even though everyone could be interested on what a young women had to say how it was like to live in a white society at this time of era. The reason why she was trying to get the African American race’s attention the most was because of Joe Louis’s victory American society didn’t see African Americans as the lowest class. Even though they weren’t seen as the highest class they weren’t ass low either.
Purpose: The purpose of this story and why it was written was for that African American can no longer feel less from the white race. So they are able to feel confident because of Joe Louis’s victory they were no longer seen as the lowest class their was in American society. African Americans were no longer feeling that they were slaves for the white race they were free from slavery no longer having to do work for the Americans. They did have to believe what they said that God himself didn’t love them because they were black.
Subject: The general topic of this story was the victory of Joe Louis “Brown
Bomber” against Primo Carnera. Symbolizing the victory of African American society against American society. In other words African American people weren’t seen as lesser people in America after this victory.
Tone: The attitude the author expresses in this chapter is both happiness and sadness. I believe at times its happiness because she’s talking about how it was like to be around uncle Willie’s shop with her brother and seeing the African American community all gathered together to hear the fight. Also in other moments she would seem sad because of how American society saw them as and how they made them seem so low in society.
