People fight wars for two reasons, to gain power or to fight for what is right. The Rising is fighting a truculent war with the Society to dethrone the Society. At the same time Cassia and other benefactors rush to find a cure to fight a virulent disease. Ky is sick with the disease and does not know if he has a chance with Cassia now. Cassia has not seen her family in almost a year now and do not know if they are sick. Xander and Cassia are getting closer in their relationship will Ky is sick. Xander and the doctor Oker have discrepancies☺ about making the write cure. Reached would be graded an A- for three reasons. Death will not take the people I love our journey will end differently” (Condie 309). This quote shows that a poem changes the point of view for Cassia. The poems make the characters realize things like they have not before. The poems open up Cassia’s imagination and allow her to be more creative and think out side the box. The poems used in this book explain the characters and their personalities. Ky shows the amount of love he has for Cassia through poems. Cassia takes the poem and uses it to describe herself. The poems show more in-depth to the book by using them to explain the love between Cassia and Ky instead of just flatly saying it. The poems allow the reader to use their imagination to think of what each poem means to a character and allows them to wonder why the author would put that exact poem to explain the

    A short story and poem, no matter how structurally different, are two literary pieces where a rich story is embedded. Readers are drawn towards these scripts by means of rhythm (poem), characterization, or a fictional setting in their respective narratives. However, the mere script would not make it entertaining enough to hold the reader’s attention. It would depend on the imagination of the readers as they are reading the story as to what they take from it. Every reader has their own way of visualizing the descriptions and symbolism used by the author. It is through imagination that the readers are able to interpret what the author is trying to depict within the symbolism and other descriptive languages. The beauty of stories and poems is that they are generated and created through the readers own imagination which consequently allows each individual reader to build their own personal connection with the literary piece. The two literary pieces “The Road Not Taken” (poem) and the short story “A Worn Path” are different in terms of actual writing styles, however they both share the same theme which is every person’s journey is greatly governed by their decisions and no matter how many paths there may be, it is still the choices that the person makes that determine the ending of his or her journey. Each one conveys a theme of life journeys and the challenges and struggles that go along with those journeys. In “The Road Not Taken” it is the journey one must make while trying to choose the right path in life. One path seemingly offers a more familiar road and perhaps the easier of the two.     A great poem shocks us into another order of perception. It points beyond language to something still more essential. It ushers us into an experience so moving and true that we feel at ease. In bad or indifferent poetry, words are all there is. Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee” is a great poem, not because it is popular or it is classic, but because of its underlining message. “Annabel Lee” is a poem of death, love, and beauty. It captures the narrator’s interpretation of these three ideas through his feelings and thoughts for one woman. The narrator, Edgar Allan Poe, becomes infatuated at a young age with the character in the poem, Annabel Lee. Even after she passes away, his love for her only increases and only becomes stronger, revealing that they were meant to last forever. So, it is clear that in “Annabel Lee” Edgar Allan Poe depicts the death of a lovely woman, his lovely woman in words of eternal love. It all started “many and many a year ago, in a kingdom by the sea” (Poe 1-2). They fell in love when they were just little children in the kingdom by the sea, which portrays a fantasy setting. It makes it seem like a fairy tale, like a paradise on Earth, not very real, not very true, but Poe shows otherwise. The fantasy setting intensifies their relationship and also indicates that both Annabel Lee and Poe came from two different worlds, but through love, it became easy to see each other as a union of both places. They “loved with a love that was more than love” (Poe 9), a love so strong and powerful that nothing could come in between. In fact, the emotion they shared amongst each other was more than just love. “But our love it was stronger by far than the love” (Poe 27). That emotion was far greater than the meaning of love, than the message of love. That emotion was forever, was eternal, and was true.
