As we pulled up to the apparent "Rich Mans" house, all I could see was a large, old, crumbly house in the middle of nowhere. Drizella must have noticed as well because her excited bouncing had turned into angry stomping. "What is this," She …show more content…
muttered angrily, and we all stepped out of the carriage. A man ran out of the house and warmly greeted us. "I am so glad you are here! please come in and get settled," he said, and my mother smiled her usual fake smile and nodded. And that's when I met her. She was around the same age as us and yet she was far prettier, even though I'd never admit it. As she approached us I couldn't help but feel her presence was like a ray of sunshine. I avoided eye contact with her and my envy and jealousy began to grow and fester.
As time passed on Drizella and began to pick on her and I was soon pressured to do the same. I always felt bad about it, but at the same time, it temporarily made me feel better. When it was just my mother and me and Drizella, they would always pick on me. Although, it was never as bad as cinderella. You see, Drizella was my mother's favorite. She felt that out of the two of us, Drizella had a better chance of securing a fortune. However the moment we moved into cinderellas father's house, that all changed. Cinderella was picked on and I was raised to a status almost as high as my sisters. In the end, I was more relieved than anything, that it was cinderella being picked on instead of me.
All I wanted was to be like my mother and sister and I guess I got it. Until the day of the ball, that is. It started as any other day. My sister and I were preparing for the ball and I was quite excited to go in all honesty. Mother had said cinderella could go to if she finished her chores, but I didn't want her to be there because she was prettier than me. So I had her help with my dress and gave her meaningless chores along with my mother and sister. Soon the time came for us to leave and cinderella was ready to go! I was so surprised when she came down in beautiful pink dress and cute shoes. And that's when I noticed my necklace. My mother had noticed too and was glaring at her. "You thief! Did you ask your sisters whether you could borrow their stuff," She exclaimed. We didn't let cinderella answer. I took back my necklace and watched with a mix of horror and glee as my sister tore her sash and a large chunk of the pink dress off of cinderella.
Cinderella then ran off and it was off to the ball for the rest of us.
I tried my hardest not to think about poor cinderella as we went to the ball. At the ball, my sister and I didn't have much fun. My mother kept forcing us to stand straight and dance with rich men we didn't care about. She had wanted us to dance with the prince but he had only danced with one girl that whole evening. A girl with beautiful glass slippers and a stunning blue dress. Soon we headed home and I was surprised to find a letter in the mail the next day stating that the woman who could fit her foot in the glass slipper that I had seen earlier would marry the prince. My sister and I ran about, trying to prepare ourselves for this new found opportunity. I did not see my mother or cinderella until the man came to let us try on the dainty
shoe
Drizella went first. She had wrapped her feet in cloth to make them smaller and was now trying to fit her big ugly feet into that beautiful slipper. After about three hours of pushing, pulling, and begging, the man moved on to me. I had rubbed my feet with lotion and attempted to slide my foot into the slipper. But to no avail. My mother, who had just come down the stairs, let out a sigh. Then the man asked if she had anyone else who could try on the slipper. She shook her head and ushered them out. But suddenly cinderella stumbled down the stairs with a key in her hand! The man looked angrily at my mother and attempted to slip the glass slipper onto cinderellas foot. It was a perfect fit! As cinderella was whisked off to the castle, we all watched warily, realizing that we would never see a single dime of the fortune cinderella had just received.
