Ian McEwan is an English novelist and screnwriter. He was born on june 21,1948, in Aldershot,England. His parents were David McEwan and Rose Lilian Violet .His father was a working Scotsman who had worked his way up through the army to the rank of major and his mother a local woman whose housband had died in the World War II,leaving her with two children. McEwan spent much of his childhood in British Military Bases in England , Singapore and Libya,where his father was posted at the time. He returned to England when he was twelve and was educated at Woolverstone Hall Boarding School. In 1966 he studied at the University of Sussex,here he realise he was meant to be a writer but then, he mainly wrote scripts for the stage,television sketches and radio play. In 1970 he was earning an MA in English Literature at the University of east Anglia, when he swithched to prose,earning a degree in creative writing. Shortly after graduation he married with the young and liberated Penny Allen having two sons together but the two divorced shortly thereafter. There divorce became slightly as a media circus when Allen fled to France with her new housband ,taking the two boys with her.Finally she was found and ordered to return to Angland. Shortly after that McEwan married for the second time with Annalena McAfee,the editor from the Guardian . After 1975s his career took off ,he first published two volumes of short stories ‘’First Love,Last Rites’’(1975) and “ In between the sheets”(1978) and seven novels: “The cement Garden”(1978),”The comfort of strangers”(1981),”The child in time”(1987), ”The innocent”(1989),”Black dog”(1992),”Enduring love”(1997),”Amsterdam”(1998). His next novel, “Atonement “(2001), received considerable acclaim; Time magazine named it the best novel of 2002, and it was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
