iAnna is a short story written by Will Self. The story takes place at a small hospice called St. Mungo’s, which Dr. Shiva Mukti, who is a psychiatrist works at. Dr. Shiva Mukti receives a patient named Anna Richards, who, according to him, has “iPhrenia.” The decease originated by what he describes as a “flamboyant psychotic breakdown” of unknown origin. The story also contains a third person named Dr. Zack Busner, a retired psychologist. Dr. Mukti sends for him and inquires him to come see his patient Anna, who has a very unique case. Dr. Mukti and Dr. Busner meet, and Dr. Mukti introduces him to Anna. The two doctors interact with her by pretending they are a part of her virtual world. A bit later in the story, all of them have a dinner and discuss how to deal with her unique condition. At the end Dr. Busner gets a brilliant idea and reverts her so that she becomes an iPad. Dr. Busner explains Dr. Mukti that giving her an iPad will probably cure her or at least make her a part of the society again.
Dr. Shiva Mukti is described as being a tannic goatishly good-looking man in his late thirties, with black hair. His clothing style is a simple tweet jacket, and his attitude is good and decent, which is reflected by his boast of his work. Dr. Mukti is in a way a bit orthodox, because of his hunger for approval from his elder colleague.
Dr. Zack Busner is an old man, described with a big stomach and a froggy mouth. Even though his retirement, he still takes great pleasure in psychology and gets an instantly interest in Anna’s case. Out of the blue, Dr. Busner takes on a mentor role, and he is the one who “cures” Anna. He is not directly counter-technology but careful for the influence and impact it can have on certain people’s lives.
Anna Richards grew up in an ordinary middleclass family with of her parents, siblings and friends. Anna studied in English, and where about to take a degree, until
