Factors that affect vital capacity.
Research Question:
Does a long distance runner have larger vital capacity than short distance runner?
Background Information:
This is an experiment to see if long distance runners have a larger vital capacity than short distance runners and why so, if it is true.
Independent variables:
The runners.
Dependent variables:
The average measure of vital capacity after trials of blowing as hard as possible into a spirometer.

The spirometer.

How will I control the variables?
I will control it by repeating the trial 3 times and take the average by using the same spirometer and between every trial a 2 minute rest before measuring again to minimize the error of lack of air in the lungs, because when the runner breathes he loses air so he needs to rest.
