A ritual is competitive wrestling in which Okonkwo proved himself as a strong trustworthy man and his rise to fame by beating the “Amalinze the cat”. He brought honor to himself and back to his family name which his father tarnished. He beat an opponent that was a strong and respected warrior by many because of how great he was. When Okonkwo beat him, he was admired and gain the respect of everyone because he beat the best at the time. This showed the wrestling matches were very important to the Ibo culture. It starts with the men in the families start to exchange sticks with each other to negotiate the price for the bride to be given.
