Ice Breaker Activities
Assignment 1

Presentation of an ‘Ice Breaker’ activity
Due date: On day of presentation Weighting: 20%
Length and/or format: Approx 20 minutes
Purpose: This exercise asks you to research an ice breaker game that you can implement in class. You are required to facilitate the game using your fellow class mates as participants. You need to introduce the activity, explain how to play it and then facilitate the game.
Upon completion you must explain why you chose the activity and what it can achieve in the context of building relationships with young people.

‘Ice Breaker’ Activity 1: Skittle Speak
Note: Before preparing or distributing food make sure you are aware of children’s allergies or dietary restrictions and caution students about choking hazard.

Put skittles on the table and ask all the students to take as many as they want. On average the students should take between 10 to 15 skittles each. You should take some too. For each skittle they took the students must say one thing about themselves. You demonstrate first, of course. Each colour skittle represents a category students must speak about.
Orange – scary memory
Red – great holiday
Green – something about your family
Blue – favourite hobby
Purple – something unique about yourself
Yellow - goal you would like to achieve this year

‘Ice Breaker’ Activity 2: Who am I?
Have students share facts about themselves by getting each of them to write four or five statements about themselves. The last line is the questions ‘Who am I?’ Collect all the students statements and place into box. Pull out first one and write it up on a board. Whoever correctly guesses which students statements are on the board gets to write up the next drawn statement paper from the box.

‘Ice Breaker’ Activity 3: Construction Cards
Arrange students into groups of 3 or 4 and give each group a deck of cards. Explain that each group will use the cards to build a house. They can decide to enter their house
