Ice Cube With Vegetable Oil

Before our group began the procedure itself, I thought about the whole concept in watching an ice cube melt in a beaker filled with vegetable oil. At first, I thought it was going to be interesting, right of the bat with bubbles and other reactions that catches interest. Once we started the procedure by inserting the ice cube into the beaker filled with vegetable oil, the dullness and boring state also began to flow. We sat there watching for a good five minutes before any visual reaction was taking place. The ice cube was actually melting in the oil; however, the water, representing a simple start for the procedure, was not mixing with oil. This aroused us with many questions and observations such as “Why is the water not mixing with the oil?” and “Does It have anything to do with density?” (Since it was introduced as a prelab requirement). Turns out, density played a big role in this procedure, but we do not know why yet so we formed a hypothesis around this idea.
Looking at the hypothesis, we decided to execute an experiment by getting two beakers both being filled at 10ml, one containing water and the other oil. This experiment helped us form the prediction statement, “If water and oil do not mix at all and the water resumed to stay under the oil (at the bottom of the beaker) due to water being denser than oil, then in the experiment, the water in a 10ml beaker will weigh more than the oil in a 10ml beaker, concluding that water is denser than
