There are many different theories and conclusions about the death of the Iceman. Konrad Spindler, who led the team studying the body, concluded that Iceman was a shepherd living in a farming community close to the Val Venosta. Iceman was well equipped for long absences and his general health was good although he did have some health problems. Most scholars’ opinions however, are conflicted about how and why he died.…
Abstract: Cold packs are based on the principle of endothermic reactions, which means a reaction that absorbs heat from the surrounding resulting in a temperature drop. Due to this temperature drop, cold packs have many benefits when it comes to injuries such as sprains and strains. It cools the local tissue and reduces bleeding, swelling and pain. It also aids in a speedy recovery. The most commonly used chemical in instant cold packs is ammonium nitrate which will be tested in the investigation along with four other chemicals in water. These other chemicals include potassium nitrate, potassium chloride, sodium acetate and sodium chloride. The two lowest chemicals will then be mixed together at different concentration ratios to see if this drops the temperature further. The chemical/s the produce the lowest temperatures will be tested and compared against a normal frozen cold pack.…
I have known for a long time that I have an addictive nature, as I tend to become very focused on something I like and buy or accumulate as much as I can whether I need it or not. I did not want to say, however, I was addicted to food for a long time. I would rationalize my binges on sugary things as a “BIG sweet tooth” and blame my parents for it, inherited you know! The past few years it has gotten to be a problem at times. I have come to the realization, it is not my parents who created the problem but me. I am the one who loves anything sweet and cannot seem to stop at just one piece of candy but a whole bag. I am the one who continues to buy them in mass quantities and to sit at night in front of my computer and finish them off. I am the one, when depressed, or sad, or angry, who goes to buy more and eats until the bags are gone. Then I have major migraines from the coming off the sugar high, and I say I am NEVER going to do that again, only to do it again.…
North of Alaska, ripples scattered over the water as the small 'u' shaped trawler glided through the shivering water. As Summer swept through, the mountains with the remains of snow enclosed the lake, distant from the open sea. A small gulley was the only way to access the unknown feverish water. A thin layer of ice sat clumsily on the cool liquid. As the humble boat pierced through the slender layer of ice, it parted with ease leaving a slushy mix on the surface. Calmly, the middle aged man walked to the bow lowering the now ancient anchor. As ancient as the anchor so was the boat. White paint peeled from the side and hull, the raw timber now exposed. As the man walked across the decaying boards they screamed in protest. The man, Tim Kolveski,…
I am a very forgetful person. I can lose things within minutes and have absolutely no idea as to where it is. Consequently, being that person can be very tough because no one really trust you with their belongings, you lose everything and it becomes very frustrating, etc. So it is very of the norm for me to causally misplace my phone. One day while leaving the mall after a day of handing out with friends I realized I misplaced my phone. I didn’t really give it much thought because this is a normal habit for me. However, it wasn’t until I got home that I realized, “I really don’t have my phone.” I went straight into panic mode because I realized that it could be anywhere, with anyone. After about forty-five minutes of crying and searching,…
Every 2 weeks after service, my church hosts breakfast for anyone who wants to come. My dad and I would normally attend these events, because he was too lazy to make breakfast on his own. Well on this particular chilly morning in autumn, it was my church’s turn to host breakfast, and as routine, my dad and I go and serve ourselves a cup of coffee and we also grab a bagel. While I sat and ate this bagel I couldn’t stop thinking about this man and how he how he was doing considering it was in the low 40’s that morning. The more I thought about it, the more I felt sorry for this man. I needed to find Steven, my youth pastor who also normally came to breakfast, to tell him about this man. I knew there had to be something I could do to help him, even if it just was getting Steven to go over there and talk to him and offer him some breakfast because I was too scared to approach this man.…
I had been a panicked child according to my father. My mother was somewhat chaotic and didn’t really have any stability in her life and that had made me overcompensate to gain control of my life. Though the disorder crept up on me the nerves and unnecessary need to be perfect started at a very early age. I still don’t know what drove me to just a drastic point but I was underweight by my fifteenth birthday and still losing pounds by the week. My father did not recognize the signs I displayed for only a short while. My new step-mother was the focus of his attention and he and I both lacked the skills to successfully communicate when I started…
I woke up the next morning from our hotel door opening. My family had came back from eating breakfast. I had food crumbs all over my old self. My stomach rumbled. I was so hungry. My mom noticed and grabbed some dog food from our closet. She put it in the bowl and sadly I snarfed it down. After I eating and drinking some water, I went out onto the patio with the book,“My Dog and Me”, in my mouth. I don’t remember whom the author was but I thought it was an excellent read. I was reading how they were driving their car when my mom came onto the patio and saw me reading and took the book out of my mouth and…
I had to rush to the San Bernardino Valley College library to print out my research paper. Then I was late to my pharmacology class. My front loader Maytag washer machine just decided to break down on me early in the morning. I was on my second load of dark clothes, when I tried to turn the washer machine on. The machine kept saying error. I had 5 other loads to wash and I had asked my mother-in-law, if I could go wash at her house. My mother-in-law was washing and I had to wait until she was done. I didn't get home til 9P.M. and still had to do my trigonometry homework. Next, inanimate objects have their way of getting lost. My direct tv control remote always ends up in weird places. Sundays are game day. It was the first football game of the season and my favorite team Dallas Cowboys were playing at 1:00P.M. It was 15 minutes til the game and the televisions was on the Disney junior channel. I couldn’t find the remote control. Therefore, I had to download the peel remote on my phone in order to change the channel. I notice there was something on the top of my Honda Accord, it was the direct tv…
Day 1: After waking up I walked to the kitchen, opened the cupboard and grabbed my MC from cupboard. I grabbed a lemon, sliced it into two and squeezed half of the lemon into the MC. I used water to fill the remaining of the cup and drank the entire cup. While drinking, I felt my eyebrows raise, lips pucker and my mouth salivate as a reaction from the drink. These physical reactions disappeared after about a minute. After this I cleaned the cup with soap and water, placed it back into the cupboard and recorded my experiences.…

My feet were anxiously tapping on the bleachers of my middle school gym, as I was waiting for my mom to bring me food. I was freaking out because I had a volleyball game in an hour and my stomach was begging for some rice, beans, and cheese tacos from El Pato. My eyes kept flashing to the door in hopes of seeing my mom, but instead I saw something odd. My brother, who was always busy with work, and my dad walked in, with no food. I was upset and confused.…
Earlier one day on my RV trip, my Dad promised me he would take me tubbing, but he never did so the whole time after I was screaming at him I ran to the bathroom in the RV and took a towel and wiped my tears off my cheeks, a little while later, after I was annoying my brother, one of the families named Yael and Avi were in the RV and then they asked,…
I had never felt this way before. I assumed it was from something I ate earlier. When my mom got done paying we had to go through those big long metal things that detect if you stole something. As I approached the metal detectors my legs began trembling slowly I walked through surprised that nothing happened I quickly exited the store. During the car ride home I was excited to put my foamy purple butterfly on my wall. As soon as I got home that feeling in my stomach returned. I ignored it and put up my butterfly. I gazed at is for a few seconds. I then went to my mother in complete shame of the foolish action that I had just done. I confessed my secret to her. I told her that I didn't want to go to jail and that I would go back to the store and return the butterfly with her. My mom was quiet for a few seconds. She then started yelling at me “Maham what were you thinking how could you steal. Yes I know a sticker isn't a big thing but still you have done something very bad and I hope you realize that you can get sent to jail for stealing. I am glad that you told me but you need to promise me that you will not do something like this ever again.” My eyes started to sparkle and in the quietest voice I said “I’m sorry mommy I didn't think it was a big deal but now I know it is I am so sorry I won't ever do it again.” Tears started to roll down my face and my mother hugged me and comforted me. This was the first and last time that I would steal. I have learned my lesson and understand that next time there could be bigger consequences. Even though I didn’t steal anything big it was still bad because it can affect my character. Also getting caught would be terrible it could ruin my life. I wouldn’t be considered trustworthy. I am glad that I have learned my lesson early on and not…
My eyes felt heavy and dry from staring at my phone for so long. I know I should have been studying for my science test, but I procrastinated, so I continued to keep my dazed eyes glued to the bright screen. When I rarely looked up from my phone, I noticed that day was withering away, as it was becoming more and more deep into the night, with the sun replaced by the moon in the star-filled sky. After just simply turning my neck to my window, I felt stiff from staying in the same position, being too lazy to get up out of my comfortable fuzzy chair. At this point, I knew I had to start studying, but instead I kept playing Candy Crush. My mom always told me to put down my phone, but I never listened..…
