Ice Hockey Essay
Hockey is by far my favorite sport of all time. I love the environment, and all the technique involved in the sport. Everything from slap shot, to wrist shots, to fighting, to passing, and even fighting for the puck on the boards has always brought my attention. The amount of effort that it takes to be good at this sport is absolutely ridiculous. When talk about hard work and dedication, you definitely need it to play this sport. I’ve tried ice skating before and it really didn’t turn out to well, so I’ll just leave it to the professionals.
Even though I’m a bad ice skater, I play a mean game of street hockey. Street hockey is just like ice hockey but on roller blades, at least I can skate on those. I like the flow of hockey when it comes

The Globe pressed the question “But if the sport became soccer on ice, would that really be so bad?” The answer is yes, it would be terrible, hockey is popular because of its rough, gritty demeanor. The Globe and Mail also debated “The streamlined, beautiful game exhibited at the Olympics every four years proves that a purer version of the sport can exist, once the will to adapt is there.” This sophisticated play comes from bigger consequences, yes, but also from the pressure of representing your country in positive light. Hockey player’s in the NHL however play for themselves, their club, and in present day most importantly, their fans. Fans want to see huge hits, fights and goals - in reality the spectators are who pays the players therefore players must preform to their liking. Discussed was the fact that professional sports do remake themselves to eliminate harmful parts of the game, an example used in the editorial regarding hockey is the banning of spearing, but players still spear which proves adding rules don’t fix everything. Players want to impress their teammates, coaches and fans, sacrificing their own well being to do…

It all began in 1607, from two boys just pushing a ball around with a stick. To men bashing each others face into plexiglass. Either way it’s still hockey weather you agree or disagree. Some people watch hockey for the excitement of their team winning and fighting, or for a family fun night. Others just like to watch others watch hockey, because they’re amused by their heads go from one side to the other. Like a kid playing with click clacks. For most kids way back when they needed to find a way to amuse themselves. It’s not like they could come home and watch Tv. They didn’t know what TV was at the time, in fact they didn’t know what electronics were either. So why not just come up with something outside, hot or cold, day or night, they will find something. So then there was hockey.…

When was the last time you went to a Hockey game? Last Year? Last Week? Yesterday? Hockey is a game that brings people together. It creates a family of people that will stand with each other through anything; fans and players, parents and coaches. The Bond that is built is incredibly strong. One athlete, Denna Laing, was recently injured in the first ever Women’s Winter Classic after she accidentally stepped on a stick, crashing head first into the boards. She was removed from the ice on a stretcher and rushed to Mass General Hospital. Her fans, friends, teammates, and coaches are supporting her coming together as a community, but wouldn't it be so much better if we never had to go through difficult times like what Denna is going through right…

Playing Ice Hockey was a burning passion of mine. It all started in the cold and dense locker room. Practice had just finished up and we were inside the locker room getting undressed. I was a forward on the team and was only ten years old. The team goalie was sick and was not going to be able to make our game the next day. Coach asked “Is anyone willing to play goalie for our game?” and I, the young ten year old boy I was; was the first person to quickly respond saying “I will!” Playing goalie was destined for me, I was a star and very talented.…

In the 2014 Winter Olympics, National Hockey League (NHL) should allow players to participate in the games due to the belief that it provides the players, current, and potential fans the opportunity to participate on the world stage of hockey. The Olympics only occur once every four years and it would be unpatriotic to deny NHL players the opportunity to represent their home countries at the Olympics.…

A couple years later, after repeating hard levels of skating classes due to many difficulties in the moves and in getting new skates, I finally leveled up to the Free-Skate classes. In figure skating, we have several levels, depending on your association. I am currently associated with both the USFSA (United States Figure Skating Association,) and the ISI (Ice Skating Institute). The USFSA is the path most skaters take if they want to go to the World Championships or to the Olympics. ISI is just for recreational skating, you can do some competitions here and there, but nothing like the Olympics. In the USFSA, we have categories like the basic skills, Free-Skate, Ice Dance, Pairs…

I always excelled in sports and I have always seemed to learn new things quite fast. Lacrosse was different. The day my friend Riley Carr had came down to my house and asked if I wanted to join the Canton Lacrosse Michigan youth team was life changing. I agreed to play but only because it was both of our first times playing and I didn’t want to be embarrassed alone. As you can probably guess, My first few years playing were not very good and I was still unskilled in the game. As soon as 7th grade came around, My Canton team was unstoppable! We were beating the top 10 teams in the state by HUGE numbers! It wasn’t even fair for the other teams. We were winning every tournament and championship we attended, and I was having my breakout season. This journey lasted all the was through middle school and to the day our middle school careers were over, and we were separated to different schools. It was a sad day knowing I would never get to play with these kids again who over the years, I had made very strong bonds with. I would not change a thing about my decision to play lacrosse.…

Field hockey wasn’t my first true love. My first love was softball. I believed that I had found the sport that I loved and wanted to play as long as I could. My mind was set for the long term, and I believed that this was the sport for me. This all changed when I was introduced to field hockey. On the last day of middle school, I was approached by the middle school coach and she asked me if I wanted to come out and play that summer. I was hesitant to agree, since I planned on playing summer softball and I didn’t want to have multiple practices a day. In the end, my friend Naomi convinced me to sign up. Weeks started to pass without a word from the coach, and I forgot all about signing up for hockey, until one day she called my mother’s phone…

I feel that my greatest skill is perseverance. When I was 9, I left brick and mortar education to pursue one of my greatest passions: figure skating. It was my dream to go the 2018 Winter Olympic Games representing the United States of America. Many years later, fractures in both of my knees ended that dream. I thought that I'd be able to return, and would have a fantastic comeback story, but the knee pain never left. I was never able to return to the sport.…
