Ice Hockey Leadership

The dictionary defines a leader as someone who leads. This definition in not helpful for anyone wanting to become a leader themselves because a leader is so much more than someone who leads. A leader has great virtues that allow them to obtain the trust of others. Through leadership experiences, one will learn the qualities needed to be a leader. I have gained leadership experiences through hockey, work and student government. These experiences taught me to be calm, passionate, and gain the respect of others. I have learned how to express these traits through integrity and the desire of becoming a better leader. The sport my passion has always been in is ice hockey. When one is passionate about a topic, they will obtain the desire and energy needed to push themselves and others through a challenge. My passion for hockey has given me the energy and devotion to learn more about hockey along with helping others learn how to play the game of hockey. This passion to play and help others realize the excitement of hockey, allow me to teach the class with enthusiasm that keeps the youth interested. This enthusiasm helps youth develop skills like teamwork and a good work ethics to help them succeed in the future.
It is essential for a leader to remain composed and positive, so people will listen to them and take what they say seriously. When I first started at the local ice rink, I noticed how the main instructor at the time would never show frustration. By observing other instructors, I was able to adopt some of the qualities and tactics that help me lead these classes myself. Countless kids are scared to step out on the ice or release your hand and stand up on their own, but by remaining calm and always using encouragement, the kids in the class will gain enough courage to stand on their
