Iceland Play Critique

The play Iceland was written by a UF student this year. Iceland was a very abstract and different play than I had expected. Overall, I believe the University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance put on a great performance of Iceland by all of the actors’ performances were superior and deeply showed their character. Out of all the actors, my favorites in the play were Lauren Killer and Drew Bryan who played Fox-child and Crow-child. Their performances were hilarious and really lightened up the play with everything else going on in the play such as the family being in the middle of nowhere and the witch (Megan Wicks who played Baba). Killer and Bryan’s relationship throughout the whole play was that of two best friends almost, they would go everywhere together. Also the way they portrayed their character of a fox and crow child emphasized even more that they were in the middle of nowhere. I also really liked the relationship between Wicks Killer and Bryan. All three of them together had good chemistry and the facial expressions used by all three actresses were amazing. Every time Wicks would raise her tone of voice, Killer and Bryan acted so dramatically which I really thought gave the play a sense of light and humor. Wicks relationship with all the actors and actresses in the play was the same and I feel like she played the role of the witch very well. Wicks physical movements such as pacing back and forth and raising her voice at the same time showed us just how mad and furious she was at the actors and actresses. For example, when Wicks banishes Paul Poppe who played Asgier it proves that she is in charge and controls the play with great passion. My favorite part of Wicks is how strong and bold she was in this play and she doesn’t change throughout the entire play. Lindsay Head who played Jadwiga was one of the girls in the play that I thought her role was very meaningful and helped give spirit to the play. Once she was
