Ichabod Crane: Song Analysis
Ichabod Crane’s IPod playlist would be songs about being superstitious, liking food, and loving nature. Firstly, the song would be “Superstitious” by Europe. I think this because the book says Ichabod has an “...appetite for the marvelous… powers of digesting them…” (page 22,25). Therefore, I chose the lyrics “I’ll keep this feelin’ with me all the way” and I think this describes him because he’s always thinking about paranormal things. Next, the song is “Savoy Truffle” by The Beatles. I think this song because the book describes him as “... for he was a huge feeder” (page 18). The song describes him because the lyrics are “Creme tangerine… ginger sling… a coffee dessert...Savoy Truffle”. Finally, “(Nothing but) Flowers” by Talking Heads

The song Battle Hymn of the Republic was written during the war and its about the war. For over 138 years this song has been featured in patriotic programs and is still sung and schools and churches across the nation. In the early days of the war the song “john brown” was very popular. Although in its original incarnation it had nothing to do with notorious abolitionist leader hanged. Mrs. howe lyrics first appeared on the front page of the atlantic monthly in february of 1862. Twenty One Pilots is an alternative/indie band made up of two members, Joseph and Josh Dunn. They are known to occasionally rap and include specific tempos and beats that correspond with each song’s thought provoking lyrics. In the song “Oh. Ms. Believer” by Twenty One Pilots they use the analogy of snow to describe a young girl going through depression. The band accurately describes the feeling of being trapped inside one's mind as they go through the hardships of this mental illness. Although at first this song may be interpreted as another cliché alternative hit, the meanings hidden beneath the lyrics are sure to tug at the listener's heart strings as he/she looks through the eyes of someone who struggles with a loved one who is depressed.…

Although I have listened to this song a thousand times, this was the first time I really stopped to listen to the lyrics. Colicchie (real name Chas Smith) starts off the song saying “The pain is deep, i've been through hell… I'm here to be the voice for every friend i’ve ever lost.” (Smith). When hearing this I immediately thought of Ishmael Beah and how this line is probably similar to how he felt while writing A Long Way Gone.…

I enjoy listening to this song anyways as it is in my native language and one of my top childhood songs. The song is about a couple who is in love with each other but when the guy has to leave for the US, they broke up. He later returns and the love is still there. This is a very cute story and I love singing the lyrics that describes his feelings for her as he was away. If I broke up and get back together with my boyfriend, I would want this to be our scenario, that we broke up and got back together because of distance or circumstances, not because we wanted this. I also love how there are english lyrics sung with deep emotion in the song: “I will be back for you.” The music video for the song is also very heartwarming and brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it. If I got back together with my ex, I could listen to this song to remind me of my feelings for him. This song is a great song that evokes strong emotions from me and makes me think about love and how strong it is to overcome lots.…

As described in the story, Ichabod Crane is a school teacher who travels to Sleepy Hollow to teach the children of the area. This, in company with his ability to ingratiate himself, persuades many of the townspeople to successively lodge him at their homes for a week at a time, which serves as his sole source of shelter. He follows strict morals in the schoolroom, including the proverbial "Spare the rod and spoil the child"; outside the schoolroom, he is shown to have few morals and no motive but his own gratification. Despite being thin, he is capable of eating astonishingly large amounts of food and is constantly seeking to do so. In addition to this, he is excessively superstitious, often to the extent of believing every myth, legend, tall tale, etc. to be literally true. As a result, he is perpetually frightened by anything that reminds him of ghosts or demons.…

In the short story called sleepy hollow, there is a main character that have many different characteristics to how the the story is put in place and the actions as well. Ichabod crane was characterized in many different forms, but in the physical form he is very tall and a thin type of man. Irving tells us that his hands are “gangly” and his feet are very “shovel-sized.” “To see him striding along the profile of a hill on a windy day, with his clothes bagging and fluttering about him, one might have mistaken him for the genius of famine descending upon the earth, or some scarecrow eloped from a cornfield.” (1.8) Another main character in the book is Brom Bones, He is seen as the headless horseman. In the short story of Sleepy Hollow, the protagonist Ichabod Crane, and the antagonist Brom Bones, are both in a competition on seeing who can capture Katrina Van Tassels love at the end. Little did the readers expect, Ichabod crane does not win over Katrina Van Tassles love in the end of the short story. Lieder ohne Worte (Song without Words) is written by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection. The piece is in the key of E major and modulates from E to B to G major.…

Barbara Allen: I thought this song was very different from the past songs that we have listened to because of the fact that it is a folk song. I feel that many people can relate to these types of songs because it has a nice melody and harmony. Sones de Hausteca: This song integrated both the violin and the guitar into it. I thought that the range of melody was narrow. The first song was slower and seemed a bit calmer as to this song it felt a lot faster.…
