Ideal school essay

A school is a place where students go to discover new knowledge and acquire new experiences. In an ideal school, not only should students look forward to learning, but teachers should also look forward to teaching. It should have a large area of study, and a diverse student body. Most importantly, students must feel comfortable, both around other students and teachers, and around campus. While the academic system is arguably the most important part of school, the school campus itself also plays a role in how effective a school functions. An ideal location would be in the suburbs outside a relatively large city. A town with enough land, and a sizable lake would give students room to relax, and free their mind. However, the school should be close enough to the city so that students are able to experience the real world. Being close to a city provides opportunities to take courses in colleges, volunteer and intern at reputable companies and utilize the social and academic skills acquired in school. An expansive library is necessary as well as respectable sports facilities since physical health is crucial for success. Classrooms should also be spacious and maintain a small student teacher ratio.
A small ratio allows each teacher to really help students improve based upon individual needs. Teachers should have the ability to form bonds with individual students, adjusting their teaching styles to student’s strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, teachers should be able to think of interesting teaching strategies that actively engage students, as well as relating their teachings to real world applications. A simple example would be demonstrating a football throw to explain the force of gravity.
Aside from basic classes, my school would have a large field of subjects that can account for the interests of all students. This way, students can explore various topics; even topics they may not know exist. For example, in high school, my sister knew she wanted to pursue art, specifically apparel. But when it came to declaring her major on her RISD application she had not a clue print making was a major, or that Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture were all different. Students should have the option to take courses like art that are not popular among many high schools. If courses are not offered, the school should help students find programs outside of school that count as credits, or help discover summer programs. With a large area of study, students have the ability to find their strengths and weaknesses, and hopefully are able to get glances of the life they desire and hope to pursue post secondary school.
The years spent in school are for creating the infrastructure from which you build upon with later life experiences. This ideal school should provide a system that uses academic time effectively and minimizes stress. It is an environment where learning is a partnership between students and teachers. A place where students feel comfortable and are provided with the resources to expand their potentials to the fullest.
