At a glance, both protagonists (Jack, from This Boy's Life, and Anne, from Limbo) appear to have very little in common. Jack, the only child of a single mother, is desperately attempting to develop his identity while he lives an unstable life in which he is constantly uprooted and moved form city to city as his mother searches for a way to support him. This perpetual motion is sharply contrasted by Anne who grows up in a small Catholic town in the Wisconsin country. There, she is given an identity in the form of her faith in God. However, both characters seek a new, or at least better, understanding of their identity. This is manifested differently within each memoir in that Jack's search is general while Anne's is focused on her faith and her identity with Christ. Although each character deals with their search differently, they both conclude that there are issues that they are unable to control and simply have to accept. This acceptance is portrayed by the protagonists' inability to control the outcomes of their lives.…

Control has many different meanings for many different people. To most, however, this word brings to mind one person forcing another do his or her will, but other things have control over people as well. Sherwood Anderson shows two examples of control in Don and Ted. These two characters have problems created by their difficult lives. The other characters' personalities either help or hinder the children, creating a family with a constant conflict until one of the characters either changes, or disappears from the story all together.…

One interview was of my own sibling and the other an identical twin that I went to high school with. Dakota Chaney, my twin brother, describes out relationship as being very loving. He states, “I genuinely care about my sister and I know that she cares about me. It’s not how people think it is. In fact, I think there’s less of a sibling rivalry between us than just regular siblings.” Dakota’s experiences have contradicted the typical stereotype of it being “so terrible” to have a twin. He says that his sibling relationship is quite enjoyable and not that bad. In fact, Dakota states, “My family and even strangers don’t realize how close we are. I think that sometimes they get confused and mix up our kind of sibling relationship with those who aren’t twins. Not to reverse stereotype, but siblings who are not twins seem to be more distant and fight a lot more. With my sister and I, this isn’t the case.” This isn’t to say that twins don’t argue at all. We still have our tiffs, but they are few and far between due to how close we are to each other. Going through the same situations and problems and helping each other find solutions helps twins to become very close and may even contribute to their lack of fighting rather than what most would think of as causing an…

The Effects of Being a Twin Some people, more than often, make the statement, “I wish I had twin.” Then I think to myself, “You do not know the half of it.” Most people would assume that being a twin is totally awesome with no life altering effects, but it can be quite challenging.…

As twins, we have many similarities in our appearances. My sister and I both normal size, and have the same height. Furthermore, we both have brown hair, brown eyes, and same face structure. Our round faces are almost identical. We also wear the same sizes in clothes because of our same figure. Our tiny hands and chubby feet look exactly alike. Moreover, our styles of fashion are also similar, including baggy t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. This similar appearance was a problem growing up, because we would steal each others’ clothes. But we use our same style in fashion to our advantage; we both always have each other to go shopping with. When the two of us are talking our voices come out sounding the same. People are sometimes confused on what twin is talking. If the both of us had our backs turned to you there would be no way in telling which one was who. One main thing we share together is each other friendship. I can go to my sister with anything. She is my best friend. She also feels the same about our friendship.…

A person’s outcome in life is often a reflection of their childhood, or how they grew up. The different ways a child is treated by their parents may later affect the amount of grit he or she has, therefore affecting their later success in life. In the book Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, Biff, Happy and Bernard each grew up in different ways. Although Biff and Happy grew up in the same home, their father, Willy Loman, treated the boys differently, and therefore their views on life as adults turned out slightly dissimilar. Willy and Charley’s relationships with their sons contradict each other and therefore affected their son’s future successes in different ways.…

Over the years, scientists have carried out various studies on twins. If genetics do not play a part in their personalities and they are bought up under the same conditions then they would be similar regardless of their genes, however studies show that they resemble each other more than non-twins and also show that they have remarkable similarities when separated.1…
