3 September 2014 Visual Text Analysis Daft When entering the the University Center at the University of Memphis, most students will come across new large blue advertisements located at the very top of the steps leading into the university book store, an ad that is simple but powerful. After reading the advertisement the reader would notice its an in attempt to generate more sails at an on campus Starbucks designed a advertisement that promises a free reusable cup with the purchase of any of their breakfast sandwich. After reading this ad the reader will have a glance of how the American culture is looked at through the eyes of the ad creator, how they use laziness to manipulate us, also using peoples financial situations and lack of attention to detail to sell a product. As mentioned before the ad is a simple but smart design that includes the schools primary colors blue and white which appeals the customer being that most people on the campus is a fan of the school, that alone is a great idea and enough to bring in a lot of customers and the creator of the add knows this. The University of Memphis gets most of its revenue from its students, so its easy to assume that the main audience for this ad is its students and anyone who enjoys coffee. Also, the ad includes the word “FREE”, which is basically the universal word to again attention. the word is located directly at the top center of the ad, making it the first thing the reader sees when looking at the advertisement. It is also big enough to see from a distance which would help in attracting customers who would want to see what was free. Also, the ad has a enormous picture of the reusable cup the consumer would be acquiring. On the cup is the green Starbucks logo in the center of the ad making it the second thing seen by the customer. With it being so much bigger than everything besides the word
