After completing the pharmacy residency IPPE, I feel like I have a much better understanding of how residency training is structured and how it can benefit me as a pharmacist. Commission on Excellence in Special Education (2002) stated that “post-school success is the ultimate indicator of school reform” (p. 45), this is challenging schools to ensure that students with disabilities are adequately equipped with the skills and supports needed for adult life. It is important to implement strategies that address the needs of the individual with Emotional Disturbance. Relative to peers without disabilities, students with ED experience elevated dropout rates, diminished rates of participation in postsecondary education, higher levels of un- employment and underemployment, lower rates of civic and community participation and higher rates of incarceration. These post-school outcomes serve as indicators that students with ED may have skill and performance deficits in academic, social, and behavioral domains that hinder their transition from school to adult life. Parenting with Families of Children with Special Needs was a very informative, interesting, and educational article. This article included information that would be very important for teachers, family members, caregivers, and any other people who work with children with special needs. This article also includes some inserts from a parent of a child who was born with Down syndrome. Baby Ella’s mother briefly discuss how they felt when they found out about Ella’s condition and how they are dealing with it now. This article also helps educators and parents understand the difference between IEPs, which are Individual Education Plan, and ISEPs, which are Individualized Family Service Plans. In closure, this article offers information on understanding family life of children with special needs, tips on how to learn more about disabilities, how to communicate with families of children with disabilities, and ways to help educators when working with challenging situations. I provided one on one assistance and care to varying students with educational and physical impairments. I learned to work closely with classroom teachers as well as the special education department that provided extra services based on students needs. I had the opportunity to Implement new routines to better fit students personality and behavior for structure. Through my experience I not only focused on educational standards for students, I also implemented strategies to complete everyday task to achieve goals for independence. For example using the bathroom required extensive training to button/unbutton pants, untie/tie shoes or open food on their own to eat.
