I genuinely did not expect to learn this much from the book Unbroken. The story of Louie Zamperini was unexpectedly much more understandable and relatable than I first imagined. Seeing the main character was a former war hero, I found it surprising I was able to connect to him as I happen to be fourteen. In my opinion, readers can easily compare similar situations in their life, regardless of their age. A point often overlooked, Louie is a true survivor. He was stranded forty-seven days on a crammed raft, as well as beaten without remorse at a prison camp for two years. Louie was stripped of his friends as he watched them either be transferred or slowly die. He witnessed many accounts of sexual abuse to innocent and helpless animals, as well…

In “The Ones Who Walked Away,” the citizens and residents in this city seem to be happy and enjoy their life in the Omelas. Their life is full of peace and happiness even though they know the real reason for their happiness and the cruelty behind it. In the Omela’s the people know of the existence of a child who is living under terrible circumstances but yet they still go on with their lives as if though nothing is happening. The reason for this is because an unknown character placed terms on the city of Omelas where if they express some sort of compassion to the child suffering, all of their happiness and prosperity will change to the total opposite. In the text it states that, “They (referring to the people of Omelas) would like to do something…

I have been poked and stabbed and poisoned for years, and still I trod on. (7.4)” In the book…

Unfortunately this is exactly what happens to Connie, the main character in the short-story, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” written by Joyce Carol Oates. One Sunday, Connie decides to ditch her family at a barbeque so that she could stay home and dry her hair. That same day, Arnold Friend rolls up Connie’s driveway in a golden jalopy with hopes of taking Connie for a ride. Connie is initially charmed…

"How Far She Went" by Mary Hood is an intense story full of ever-changing and turbulent emotions. In writing about this story and its author, it can be seen there is more in depth reasoning and motivation underneath the characters actions than one might initially think. These actions could be likened to a Jungian psychological viewpoint and ideology. The story conveys the intimacy of a girl, her grandmother and the life-changing decisions made through everyday actions.…

As of now, I am reading a realistic fiction text known as 'Girl in Pieces' by Kathleen Glasgow. In the text, Charolette Davis whom is the main character, has a passion for drawing. The first reason that supports this is because Davis lost track of time when she began to sketch. Her love for art made time fly, so she stayed up until the sun started to rise. The second reason that justifies Charolette's passion for drawing is because she is insecure about herself, except for her talent. Art is the one thing that Davis takes pride in, symbolizing that she is passionate about her gift. The third reason why I believe Charolette has a passion for drawing is because she persistantly imagines what she will sketch next. This indicates that Davis…
