For years, it has been suggested to always stay anonymous online. That changed with the rise of social media, facebook in particular. People now trust that facebook, instagram, snapchat, etc. are not doing things that would actually harm the user, even though they know that it would be a possibility. The users do not necessarily want to give up their privacy though, it has just become such a convenience as to be almost required.
