Quality healthcare has diminished, while healthcare costs have increased. Thousands of chemicals we use on a daily basis contain carcinogens (meaning cancer generating) – including pesticides, detergents, toothpaste, cosmetics, food additives and even baby products.…
The tanning industry makes their money from a service that reportedly could be hazardous to the consumer (Huber, 2012). This product is tanning beds that use ultra violet (UV) light to help their consumers become tan and produce vitamin D. The ethical dilemma arises from evidence that UV exposure may cause some types of cancer. Despite these possible hazards the industry continues to claim healthy benefits from using their service. The tanning industry accuses dermatologist and other agencies of either lying, getting paid from other companies, or lacking enough evidence to prove that their service is causative. The industry is also training their employees on what they can say when they are at work and what to tell their friends and family when they are off the clock. They are using their employees as a form of advertisement. They propagate doubt in the minds of possible customers about the possible risks of using tanning beds. The tanning industry appears to be unconcerned that their product could be harming their customers.…
Beauty is pain in fact, as Nir revealed that some chemicals in nail products are causes of cancer, miscarriages, abnormal fetal development, and harm to the reproductive health. In addition, manicurist are not the only ones being affected, as studies have shown that cosmetologist, hairdresser, and makeup artist are also affected. In addition, Dr. Charles Hwu has found that many women that work in the industry have had asthma and allergy like symptoms. In the event that they get nosebleeds, throat aches, breathing problems and even contract disease due to working with deleterious chemicals. That is to say that Nir believes the salons should make changes to the industry…
The FDA amended regulations to ensure baby bottles and sippy cups can no longer include the chemical BPA. In addition, the FDA “amended its regulations to no longer provide for the use of BPA-based epoxy resins as coatings in packaging for infant formula.” U.S. Food and Drug Administration. (2015, January 6). The FDA will continue to update its view of this chemical, leverage experts in the field and take additional steps if necessary. The FDA supports the safe use of BPA in its current uses. The State of Ohio has noted that BPA exposure adversely contributes to infant development and reproductive health as public health issues. Studies conducted by the group State of Ohio Taken together and funded by the State of Ohio, have found “potential risks that BPA exposure may pose for reproductive health and infant development.” OhioLINKElectronic Theses & Dissertations Center. (2012). Furthermore, the States studies have linked that “dermal contact with receipts” can increase the amount of BPA in Ohio workers. Also, the State views BPA as a risk to expectant mothers and has found in a feasibility study that fetuses realize adverse effects in birth weight in the first…
Besides, the movie Chemerical and Silent Spring also had the same ideas with this article. Obviously, ingredients in our products that we used contained lots of harmful chemicals, which could cause and damaged our health. For example, ammonia found in glass cleaner, naphthalene found in the carpet cleaner, chlorine found in bleach, BPA found in plastics, sodium lauryl sulfate found in dishwashing soap, or DDT found in several pesticides. These chemicals would damage our eyes, throat, liver, brain, and if we swallowed, it could be fatal. In the article, it pointed out that they had a proof which “vinyl toys, polycarbonate baby bottles, and food cans leak potent endocrine disruptors.”…
One might object that convincing women of the safety of homebirth is actually dangerous for others who might have high risk pregnancies.…
There are many products in the world that help improve the appearance of people, but too much of these products may be harmful. The amount of chemicals are a very large percentage of these products. According to Source 1, there are 12 chemicals used in products, all in which can be harmful. When it comes to being “beautiful” or being healthy, many people would choose beautiful, but don’t know the effects of all the products. Also, according to Source 1, “researchers report that one in eight of the 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals.” Many people do not know this, and proceed to use the products, not knowing where they come from.…
In the article “Public Risk Perception,” Ropeik (2010) describes a mother, Susan, trying to persuade the school to close because the school have the cancer. Hello my name is Chassidy Mitchem I would absolutely love to be a part of your cosmetology program. I love to do hair and, make up. Doing hair is something I enjoy doing in my free time. It’s a way to get away from people and let my mind explore into better things. I enjoy looking and trying new hair styles and colors. I have done makeup and hair for Homecoming court and Grand March. It would be an absolute dream to get into this school and have some hands on time with the things I love doing while learning more about Cosmetology. Cosmetology is very important to the world because someone will always want their hair done or make up done. Most people only want to go to a professional so they know they will be getting the best of their money. You could also be able to set up your own business around your area. I differ from a lot of my peers because no one really understands the importance of Cosmetology the way I do. Everyone thinks it useless. Cosmetology is just as important as other jobs because someone will always need you. There will always be someone needing their eye brows done or maybe there nails especially during homecoming and prom or even a wedding. I’ve talked to a couple people and got some really interesting opinions. Some people has told me I wouldn’t make it and some people has told me I would, but my motto is “Never give up, because you never know how close you are to fulfilling your dream.” I plan on getting this degree and opening my own salon and I feel that it will give me knowledge I need to know for success. I learned to do this at a young age and I feel very strong about this career. I believe this will be the field I dedicate myself to. I hope to be attending this college at whatever time the school year would…
Ever since I was a young girl I’ve had an interest in skincare. Of course, I loved playing with makeup, but what I enjoyed most was the understanding of skin. Why does our skin react to certain things? How do we prevent the bad reactions from happening? Why does everyone’s skin react differently compared to each other? These were few of the endless questions I would inquire my mother about everyday. As always my mother never disappoints, and she always was able to answer every single question. Due to my mother’s knowledge of skincare, I was inspired to obtain the same knowledge for something I’m so passionate about.…
Another thing that Toxic Bust showed was that the increase of the use of cosmetics and certain skin care products can have an affect on a person’s chances of getting cancer. The website The Future of Health: NOW lists ten chemicals in common beauty aids that can cause not only cancer, but pose other health risks to consumers. It would be best to once again, as with household cleaners, to avoid these products and use only those that do not contain these hazardous chemicals.…
Toxic chemicals are one of the most dangerous components for the health of people, especially the environment of nail salons in which the use of chemicals is overwhelming. For example, research shows that many nail care products which contain carcinogens and endocrine disruptors may increase a woman’s breast cancer risk (Thu). Although many women come to nail salons to get artificial nails, none of them knows that primer and powder of artificial nails contain benzene and methylene which contribute to tumors. In order to support this point, animal studies have proved that these two components induce mammary gland tumors (Thu). And it is very clear that these tumors may soon transfer into cancer in woman’s breast. As a result, whatever has been proven in animal’s experiments, it may soon be proven in human. That is why customers should pay more attention to these products. Especially, when women turn older, they are more concerned about breast cancer. However, they will never notice about the connection between breast cancers and nail salons. On the other hand, other cosmetic products such as nail polish, nail polish remover, and nail tips adhesive also contain ethyl acetate, acetone, and methyl methacry that efficiently cause health problems (Cora).…
