If You Work In Cosmetology By Jaclyn Stewart Summary
In her article “If You Work in Cosmetology, Beware of Risks,” Jaclyn Stewart describes how chemicals are everywhere and the most amount of chemicals are located in salons, but people do not realize pregnant women are harming their unborn child with these salon used chemicals. When women go to the salon, they are surrounded by millions of chemicals that will harm their child in the womb. Stewart believes that people see the most popular products being used and they appear to be harmless, but this is not true as they contain the same or even more intense chemicals. The fact these chemicals are so dangerous in salons shows women are in danger to themselves and their newborn. Stewart argues that chemicals found in the kitchen, air, and foods are

The ethical dilemma arises from evidence that UV exposure may cause some types of cancer. Despite these possible hazards the industry continues to claim healthy benefits from using their service. The tanning industry accuses dermatologist and other agencies of either lying, getting paid from other companies, or lacking enough evidence to prove that their service is causative. The industry is also training their employees on what they can say when they are at work and what to tell their friends and family when they are off the clock. They are using their employees as a form of advertisement. They propagate doubt in the minds of possible customers about the possible risks of using tanning beds. Obviously, ingredients in our products that we used contained lots of harmful chemicals, which could cause and damaged our health. For example, ammonia found in glass cleaner, naphthalene found in the carpet cleaner, chlorine found in bleach, BPA found in plastics, sodium lauryl sulfate found in dishwashing soap, or DDT found in several pesticides. These chemicals would damage our eyes, throat, liver, brain, and if we swallowed, it could be fatal. In the article, it pointed out that they had a proof which “vinyl toys, polycarbonate baby bottles, and food cans leak potent endocrine disruptors.”…

Hello my name is Chassidy Mitchem I would absolutely love to be a part of your cosmetology program. I love to do hair and, make up. Doing hair is something I enjoy doing in my free time. It’s a way to get away from people and let my mind explore into better things. I enjoy looking and trying new hair styles and colors. I have done makeup and hair for Homecoming court and Grand March. It would be an absolute dream to get into this school and have some hands on time with the things I love doing while learning more about Cosmetology. Cosmetology is very important to the world because someone will always want their hair done or make up done. Most people only want to go to a professional so they know they will be getting the best of their money. You could also be able to set up your own business around your area. I differ from a lot of my peers because no one really understands the importance of Cosmetology the way I do. Everyone thinks it useless. Cosmetology is just as important as other jobs because someone will always need you. There will always be someone needing their eye brows done or maybe there nails especially during homecoming and prom or even a wedding. I’ve talked to a couple people and got some really interesting opinions. Some people has told me I wouldn’t make it and some people has told me I would, but my motto is “Never give up, because you never know how close you are to fulfilling your dream.” I plan on getting this degree and opening my own salon and I feel that it will give me knowledge I need to know for success. I learned to do this at a young age and I feel very strong about this career. I believe this will be the field I dedicate myself to. I hope to be attending this college at whatever time the school year would…

Ever since I was a young girl I’ve had an interest in skincare. Of course, I loved playing with makeup, but what I enjoyed most was the understanding of skin. Why does our skin react to certain things? How do we prevent the bad reactions from happening? Why does everyone’s skin react differently compared to each other? These were few of the endless questions I would inquire my mother about everyday. As always my mother never disappoints, and she always was able to answer every single question. Due to my mother’s knowledge of skincare, I was inspired to obtain the same knowledge for something I’m so passionate about.…

Another thing that Toxic Bust showed was that the increase of the use of cosmetics and certain skin care products can have an affect on a person’s chances of getting cancer. The website The Future of Health: NOW lists ten chemicals in common beauty aids that can cause not only cancer, but pose other health risks to consumers. It would be best to once again, as with household cleaners, to avoid these products and use only those that do not contain these hazardous chemicals.…

Toxic chemicals are one of the most dangerous components for the health of people, especially the environment of nail salons in which the use of chemicals is overwhelming. For example, research shows that many nail care products which contain carcinogens and endocrine disruptors may increase a woman’s breast cancer risk (Thu). Although many women come to nail salons to get artificial nails, none of them knows that primer and powder of artificial nails contain benzene and methylene which contribute to tumors. In order to support this point, animal studies have proved that these two components induce mammary gland tumors (Thu). And it is very clear that these tumors may soon transfer into cancer in woman’s breast. As a result, whatever has been proven in animal’s experiments, it may soon be proven in human. That is why customers should pay more attention to these products. Especially, when women turn older, they are more concerned about breast cancer. However, they will never notice about the connection between breast cancers and nail salons. On the other hand, other cosmetic products such as nail polish, nail polish remover, and nail tips adhesive also contain ethyl acetate, acetone, and methyl methacry that efficiently cause health problems (Cora).…
