IGCSE English Paper 3 Model answers
Description of a sunny day:-
The freshly watered grass gleams as if it were dotted with sparkling diamonds in the late afternoon day. Beautiful, wild flowers grow untamed and uncultivated on one side of the field while on the other side trees covered the perimeter as far as the eyes could see. A silent stream trickles gently through the clean-cut rocks placed in middle of the field, divided the field into two. Not many knew where to find this sun-dappled, ethereal beauty of God’s private chapel and those who did, did not dare to come here for the fear of getting lost from the clearly marked trail.
As I lay down on the soft grass I cannot help but wonder how silly people can be, staying away from this beautiful gift provided by nature itself, but at the same time I’m glad for the privacy. I place one hand in the stream and watch the water run thorough my fingers, shimmering magically in the fierce sun. Though it seems like I’m not the only one enjoying this paradise, a shadow looms over me blocking the radiant sun rays.
I look up to see a family of four; two parents and their two children trekking in the woods. They must’ve been lost, from the look of their faces. Tear paths show clearly on their mud cover faces and they break out in big smiles when they see me. I stand up, and the mother starts talking, explaining how they got lost in the woods that morning after having wandered what they thought a few meters away from the trail. I quickly give them my canister of orange juice, which they quickly gulp down hungrily. After they’ve calmed down considerably I give them directions to the highway where they’ve left their car. They thank me profusely and leave with the extra map and compass I always keep with me.
What an interesting day! , I think to myself. The sun retreats below the rim of the turning world, creating an aura of mystery and magic. Indigo hues deepen around the mesmerizing and occasionally surprising field that I’ve come to love in the few years

As I crested the dune my breath was taken away. Below me was the oasis, in it’s center was a crystal clear lake. Surrounded by palm trees, it looked like nothing I had ever seen before. It was easy to see why the Blessed had chosen this location for our first church, the contrast between the light blues of the water and the luscious greens of the forest was otherworldly. Especially after all the yellow I had seen in the past week.…

He talks about how he was fascinated as a kid by the brilliance of nature. He remembers almost every detail: the sound of the “mountain springs,” “this dark sycamore,” and the “hedge rows.” He mentions how he would always reminisce about his experience, which would help keep him keep sane. When he’s there, he’s thinking about his perception of it in the past, and the way he will reminisce about this experience in the future. His perspective on nature changed. Somewhere, the sun shines down upon a warm spring morning. Here at the edge of a dark lush forest, in an idyllic and lively little village, stands a peaceful old church. It is a beautiful building with purple flowering wisteria climbing up the old stone walls. The church stands in a pretty churchyard full of brightly colored roses, and the pale spring blossoms float down from the trees onto freshly cut green grass. It is a serene place to while away the hours, and many people come by simply to sit on the benches here, admiring the church and its churchyard.…

I’ve been walking down this dirt path for hours, and the only thing running through my mind is how ready for a rest I am. The sun is especially radiant right now, seeing as it’s almost sunset. The rays seem as if they’re pinching my skin, but not to tightly. Almost like a baby who’s grasping with all of her might, but still isn’t quite strong enough to cause any actual pain. The thought of babies sends my mind reeling into the unfortunate darkness that is my memory.…

Each new day begins with a sunrise. It brings to earth a new light that has never been seen before. The new light starts small and gradually reaches its peak in the vast sky. It nourishes the land, provides warmth and comfort, and inspires epic tales. It's silent now. And dark. Morning is still seeking its way to the coast; in four hours it will rise above the mainland mountains to the east. I wait. The sun's halcyon glow will soon touch the shore of Vancouver Island. I wait. Yes, I wait. The morning will bring new adventure, and my wandering imagination rises in crimson flush. At once, the quiet is shattered by the initial belch of sixty-eight degrees let loose from an aging furnace; it slows to a steady rhythmic breath; the warmth gently cradles me. I look out into the inky universe, and there dangling ever so brightly, a planet shines just above the horizon. It reminds me I am here, but I still ponder…

I set out to this place, all by myself, to fulfil the desires of my heart. Seated on the driver’s seat, foot on the pedal, I couldn’t help but anticipate how the hike would turn out to be. ‘Welcome to Deerfield’, so did one sign read. A feeling of relief tugged at me. Being a strong believer in life eternity, I figured that would be the feeling I would be having on receiving the welcome note to heaven. I parked my car at the foot of the hill and set out on foot to its peak. The narrow road, the hiking trail, was oiled gravel with steps carved out of the ground and made firm with wood. I went along that into the vast and howling wilderness. At one point the path was all covered with dry leaves that establishing the next move seemed an arduous task. I understood something of Lot’s wife temptation, when she looked back.…

As we approach the beach, the first thing I notice is the sky. As I look into the cloudless, cerulean blue sky and see the flawlessness of life; in the distance, rolling clear-blue waves crash into each other with such force as that of football players. The sky is breathtaking along with the sounds of the waves and the tide washing onto the shore. The water reminds me of crystals shimmering in the water with the sun reflecting off of it. As the sun sets, the sky turns into a pink hue with a bright orange sun going down into the horizon.…
