This also symbolizes one of her first signs of her adultery but her husband is ignorant and blinded by the love and happiness for her wife he can’t see through her.
Furthermore, the husband Monsieur Lantin was the happiest man when he was ignorant of his wife’s affair, he remarks, “ He wondered how she could have managed to buy such excellent wine and the rare delicacies which he could no longer procure with his modest resources” ( 2 ).
He wondered how his wife could governed the household with such economy that seemed that they lived in luxury when she was alive. This illustrates his ignorance, because he did not question her wife how she was keeping up with the household expenses such as the wine, delicacies, her love for the theatre and imitation jewelry in which she adorned herself with.
It proves that his loving wife was being unfaithful behind his husband’s back because he was naive to not finding out the truth sooner.
The symbolism in ignorance is bliss in the story illustrates the perfect marriage at the beginning but when the truth reveals, it shows the theme of the story in which Monsieur Lantin is blinded by
