Many terms come to mind when thinking about the independent (“indie”) film industry. Low-budget, inexperienced actors, non-commercialized, and shallow plotline. However, there are several major stylistic aspects of independently produced films that define the genre in comparison to films that are produced by large production companies. When producing an independent film, the director is not inhibited by the limitations the larger companies have. Without these limitations, the directors can usually get away with more grotesque images. This means that they can break some of the normal rules of filming in order to amplify certain features shown. This aspect is one of the pillars that plays a large part of what independent films result in;…

How does one achieve hero status? To me, there are two definitions of hero, (1) a person who is regarded as a model that is respected for qualities or achievements, and (2) anyone that in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness displays courage and the will for self-sacrifice. The heroes or heroines in The Help are the latter. The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a novel about black maids in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962. The black maids work with Skeeter Phelan, a young white woman, to write a tell-all book about what it’s like to work as a black maid in the white homes of the segregated South. The chapters are narrated through the eyes of the three main heroes—Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter. Skeeter Phelan is an aspiring writer who wants to create a series of truthful interviews with local black maids. “I’d like to write this showing the point of view of the help…They raise a white child and then twenty years later the child becomes the employer. It’s that irony, that they love us, yet…We don’t even allow them to use the toilet in the house. (p. 123).” Even if they're published anonymously, the risk is great; still, Aibileen and Minnie agree to participate, and they boldly recruit other maids to…

Macbeth by William Shakespeare reveals the quote through conflict and irony. Three witches prophesied to Macbeth that he will be king. His first conflict is that he must make a sacrifice. To kill a friend, King Duncan, in order to take the throne. The witches also prophesied that Banquo's sons will be king, thus begins Macbeth's second conflict. He must have his best friend Banquo's son killed in order to protect his throne. These conflicts reveal the quote because killing both King Duncan and Banquo's son is a huge sacrifice. Irony also proves the quote. Before Macbeth even kills Duncan he is given the title Thane of Cawdor, which the one before him was a traitor. This is ironic because later Mabeth becomes a traitor and kills Duncan. The irony in this story reveals the quote because by given the name "Thane of Cawdor" foreshadows that Macbeth will lose his pride and honor.…

In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare the setting is taking place at a military camp when it is thundering and lighting out. Which you can automatically assume something bad is going to happen. Three witches come out of nowhere and greet Macbeth with three prophecies, which Macbeth then becomes very interested in. One of the prophecies that catches Macbeth attention quick is the one where he shall be king hereafter. That's when the part of the play really brings out Macbeth's evil side. He is thinking that he can become king and he goes and kills the king but during the whole thing his wife Lady Macbeth is asking him is he a man or is he a mouse because he would not kill the king at first. Which is ironic because after she herself cannot do it. Because in act 2 scene 1 line 84 -85 she says "Had he not resembled my father as he slept I had done't" Which therefore proves the quote to be right even though a person may look nice they always have a bad side to them.…

Shakespeare’s masterpiece of a play, ‘Macbeth’, carefully depicts that Macbeth’s character was not ruined by fate but rather by damaging errors in his personality. Macbeth’s dangerous quality of ambition brings about his downfall as well as his treachery against his king, his tyranny and also his imaginativeness that eventually lures him into the murder. Although Shakespeare suggests that Macbeth’s decisions were greatly influenced by other characters in his text, it was Macbeth that ultimately decided to listen to these influences due to the many faults in his character.…

In the book Fahrenheit 451, Beatty claims that "If you don't want a house built, hide the nails and wood" (61).* What Beatty means here, is that if people don't want society to have knowledge, then all knowledge-bearing materials must be destroyed, which in this instance, are books. Books give people knowledge and more complications, which he claims can make people less happy. Ignorance is bliss because every character in Fahrenheit 451 who discovers the truth is in immediate trouble, and completely loses their control on life.…

Contrary to knowledge, ignorance is based on what is not, or untruths. Opinion represents all that remains, therefore opinion is both what is and what is not. The opinion represents all truths other than the eternal unchanging forms. Those who love merely sights and sounds cannot obtain knowledge, for they do not recognize the forms in the sights they see, but only the sights themselves. These lovers of sights and sounds instead have opinions.…

In William Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth influences Macbeth in a big way showing Shakespeare's message that going against one's better judgement can be destructive. After Lady Macbeth influences Macbeth to murder Duncan, Macbeth is left in his despair to kill innocent people around him. Macbeth also loses the respect and trust of his once-loyal friends and nobles. Before and after he kills King Duncan, which his wife manipulated him to do, Macbeth worries anxiously about the murder. Macbeth is a Thane that kills the then-King Duncan in order to fulfill a prophecy he was given by three witches. Because Lady Macbeth manipulated Macbeth into murdering Duncan, Shakespeare's message that going against one's better judgement is apparent.…
