This quote means that knowing the facts is better than relying on instinct without any proof behind it. This is a lawful statement because someone cannot progress through life assuming the outcome of events if you don’t have the knowledge to prove that notion. Two works that demonstrate, the supremacy of knowledge over ignorance would be Macbeth by William Shakespeare and Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. Truly, they illustrate that knowledge is power over ignorance. Macbeth is one character in the play by William Shakespeare is one character in the play that demonstrates this quote to be true through his actions. For instance, when Macbeth goes to the weird sisters and they tell him that no man born of woman can harm him his is pleased, and takes this as a reassurance to kill who he wants. However he doesn’t know that there was a loop whole in the apparitions; the man to kill him would be born of C-section. Another example would be when Macbeth killed Duncan thinking he would then be king, but there were people who were supposed to be heir to the throne next. These assumptions proved ignorance is not better than knowledge. Another example of this quote is in the book Pretties. Tally has been waiting all her life to become perfect and get the surgery to become pretty. But little does she know that it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The surgery takes away your ability to think for yourself as well, making you a puppet for the Specials to use. This shows her ignorance concerning the matter of becoming a pretty, she only saw what the Specials wanted her to see. Overall, ignorance is never better than knowledge. Knowing the underlying truth is always advantage over assumptions. Macbeth’s ignorance was his downfall and in Pretties, Tally’s ignorance is what put Pretty town in a chaotic fight between good and evil.
