1. Okonkwo- “An Umuofia man doesn’t refuse a call.” Okonkwo is a very hard- working clan leader in Umuofia. Okonkwo’s father had always been lazy and spendthrift. Okonkwo’s hate to his father made him to achieve and succeed in all of his tasks. Okonkwo doesn’t wish to be like his father, Unoka. Okonkwo believes that his oldest son, Nwoye, is becoming like his father, so he disciplines him in a strict nature. Okonkwo’s hard-working earned him a high position in his clan. He is a great warrior who is willing to fight for his clan. He is a person who is always willing to help and always answers a call.

Ikemefuna- “Father (To Okonkwo).” Ikemefuna is a boy who was given to Okonkwo by a neighboring village. Ikemefuna influences Nwoye in a way that changes Nwoye forever and helps Nwoye to become a man. Ikemefuna and Nwoye become very close friends as well as brothers and they start to bond with one another. Ikemefuna is loved by Okonkwo because he calls Okonkwo father. Ogbuefi Ezeudu visits Okonkwo to tell him that Ikemefuna must die and that Okonkwo must take no part in the killing. When Ikemefuna comes to Okonkwo for help, he rejects Ikemefuna because he doesn’t wish to look weak among his clan members; therefore, he kills Ikemefuna. Okonkwo had his feelings for Ikemefuna and wanted to help him. Even though Ikemefuna was nice to Okonkwo, Okonkwo turns him down. In my opinion, Ikemefuna is an exceptional person.
6. Ekwefi- “I am following Chielo.” Ekwefi is the second wife of Okonkwo. Ekwefi was the village beauty in the early years of her life. Ekwefi ran away from her first husband to live with Okonkwo. All her children have died intheir early age, but one still survives. Her only daughter, Ezinma, lives with her. Ekwefi fears that her only daughter will die. Her friend Chielo is there for Ekwefi to help her through life. She finds courage and bravery to follow Chielo and risk the god’s disapproval for her daughter, Ezinma. Okonkwo did make his own choices and that led him to his tragic end. His own freewill led him to do the things he did. For example, Ogbuefi Ezeudu warned him not to get involved in the killing of Ikemefuna, but he did get involved and killed the innocent boy. His violence got the best of him. Anotehr example is when Okonkwo lied to the miserable Nwoye, who was so sad that his friend died. I believe that Okonkwo’s own free will led him to his tragic end. Even his suicide was his own choice.
2. I think that the novel Things Fall Apart has a greater meaning to both the Igbo and the white men. The Igbo men are not portrayed as primitive and savage because they are more intelligent as they set up their own culture. They are also hard- working, but it is not for all Igbo people. In the book, the white men are portrayed as the people who broke the unity between their people by their religion. They were exposed as the senseless people in the minds of the Igbo people because they couldn’t understand their religion and thought it was meaningless.
3. The opening epigraph tells the reader that the ending will not be well. It foreshadows that things will fall apart. The epigraph tells us that the book will have a tragic end and things will fall apart. They will not be holding together because it is too much to bear. It foreshadows the fall of the Igbo culture and center. The unity of the Igbo tribe is
