Ever since this country was first discovered and settled, people from countries all over the world left their homelands and migrated to the “New World”. People from Spain, Germany, France, England and Asia traveled great distances to reach a new land of opportunity, to perhaps escape religious persecution or tyrant rulers. For centuries America has been viewed as a place for a fresh start, a place where anybody can come and begin a new life and follow their hopes and dreams. Even today people come to America for the exact same reasons that they did all those years before. However unlike the immigration of our ancestors, the immigrants of today aren’t able to just come here and do what they want without anybody noticing. Today most people view immigration as a problem to the United States. One of the most easily recognizable groups of today’s immigrants comes from Mexico. The Mexican immigrants often come here for better economic and living opportunities than they had at home. But no matter how much these immigrants want to better their lives for themselves and their families, most Americans feel that they are trouble and a drain on our resources. Despite what many think, the Mexican immigrants are helping our nation. The immigrants take many low end jobs that Americans do not want or are over qualified for, they can also boost our economy with the money they earn from working, and they diversify the nation. Immigration does and will contribute to a better America.…

When one place has better resources, opportunities, and living conditions than the current place, it makes sense for someone to migrate to the better land. That better land in today’s world is the land of opportunity-- America. This nation is one founded on immigrants. The founding fathers came from Europe with hope and ambition for a better life for them and their children. Today, people immigrate for the same reason. The difference is that immigration is now looked at with a negative eye. Immigrants now are often blamed for the hardships of American citizens. Immigrants receive accusations of stealing the jobs of American citizens. They also face discrimination and are under represented in congress. Immigrants are also blamed for overwhelming democratic support, which deteriorates the accuracy of who the American citizens want for president. Despite all of these negative views on immigrants, immigrants are not actually that bad for America. People who see immigrants as toxic for America fail to remember all of the times they have benefitted America. The benefits Mexican immigrants bring to the US outweigh the harm they may bring.…

Many Americans believe that immigrants are stealing jobs from them, when in reality most Americans do not have the willpower to get a job and the immigrants see an opportunity for a job and take it. By the time the natives apply for the job it is already taken because they were too late. Americans also say that immigrants do not pay their taxes, “According to a report from The Institute on Taxation & Economic Policy (ITEP), they pay a hefty amount of state and local tax, just like other people living in the United States. Collectively, America’s undocumented immigrants pay an estimated $11.64 billion in state and local taxes every year with at least 50 percent of undocumented immigrant households filing tax returns using Individual Tax Identification Numbers”(Forbes). That $11.64 billion dollars that is taken is from sales and excise taxes, property taxes and personal income taxes, Immigrants pay as much taxes as the average American does if not…

employers who are able to hire them for wages lower than they would have to pay to hire U.S. workers.” (FAIR 1). Many open border supporters accept that fact while rejecting the fact that those same people take American jobs. However, many national organizations have estimated that 8.5 million jobs are taken by illegal immigrants. That number comes from the estimate that 74% of the 11.9 million illegal immigrants work. Because the immigrants will take low wages, it is appealing for employers with lower level job offerings to hire illegal immigrants. For people without a high school degree, or even a college degree, it is near impossible to find un-skilled job offerings. Adding to this, the only taxes illegal immigrants consistently pay are sales taxes because they are charged at the register. Although some taxes are paid, it is estimated that only 50% of illegal immigrants register for property taxes and income taxes. Since the percent of America’s population of illegal immigrants is rising exponentially, the tax loss for the government is going to start making an even bigger…

Immigrants are not here to take jobs from American citizens, in fact many of them take jobs that many Americans would not want. An example would be a laborer working long days in a field for a farmer. Sometimes, this may be a conclusion many Americans may reach due to their own inability to find a job, reasons almost never being that an immigrant stole that job. The affected people in this stereotype are most immigrants with a job in the United States, the severity also depends on race and religion in a lot of cases. There is no one solution, as there will always be a parent complaining about their child having a non-American teacher. Two major causes for this stereotype are uneducated people and xenophobia. This may affect people in obtaining…

Immigrants are increasing new businesses in the United States, and “according to a study by the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative, from 2007-12 latino-owned net new-business formation skyrocketed 47% while non-Latino net new businesses declined by 2%” (Cisneros and Trujillo). With all these new businesses being formed by immigrants, the number of employees to run the new businesses are going up as well. This means new jobs for American workers and more money in the United States’ economy. Through the new jobs that the immigrants are producing and keeping employed, the unemployment rate goes down. Immigrants help the United States economy in other ways than just providing businesses, but also provide the country with, “business contacts to other markets, enhancing America's ability to trade and invest profitability in the global economy” (Williams). The immigrants and their businesses are also beneficial as they are able to help certain regions get out of economic recessions. According to Bill Gilmer, an economist for the Federal Reserve, the businesses that the immigrants build up create “diversification” in an economic downturn, and at the same time they create new “manufacturing, trade, and service businesses” (Williams). The businesses that immigrants make and bring to the economy have an overall positive…

According to the American Immigration Council, “there is no correlation between immigration and unemployment”, meaning that immigration does not contribute to the unemployment rate in the United States. Instead of immigrants occupying U.S jobs, leading to unemployment for American citizens, immigrants have actually been helping to sustain U.S jobs by purchasing American goods and services such as; food, clothing, cars, and houses, as well as starting their own businesses. Immigration also has no effect on the unemployment rate in the U.S because there is no competition between American citizens and immigrants for jobs because immigrants and Americans tend to differ in terms of location, job specialization, and education causing each group of people to be eligible for different…
