Im Not Crying Analysis
I'm not crying, you're crying.

In the first video, a woman that works at a nursing home talks about a special resident she had that barely responded but music would make the patient sway to the music and the patient would respond. Henry is shown and has been in the nursing home for 10 years due to his seizures and his wife not being able to give him the adequate care he needed. Henry's daughter said that when her father was younger, he would dance and sing with her. The nursing home staff says Henry is depressed and very quiet. When the headphones were placed on him and he heard music, he instantly lights up and starts to sing and sway to the music. I found this to be so precious. Henry says he is, ''crazy about music.'' I found it

I absolutely agree with that statement. I think music has amazing emotional powers. Songs can make us laugh, cry, relax, and sometimes even make us angry. John is shown in this video and the staff says that he doesn't really converse with people, he just kind of exists. I found this to be so incredibly sad. I'm an EMT and constantly go to nursing homes and I always hate seeing the sad and alone residents in the corner in their wheelchairs with no one to talk to. All I can do is offer a smile and give a quick greeting on the way with the stretcher to pick up a patient to transport. John has dementia and he couldn't remember anything about himself. So, it was hard for the staff to try to find out what music he enjoyed. I thought the backstory they found out about John was interesting. Once he had those headphones on, he turned into a vivid, full of life man again. He danced in his wheelchair, sang for the entire room and said he enjoys to sing for his gang. Music and focused attention was all it took to awaken his feelings, feelings he hadn't felt in many years. He starts to cry and says he doesn't know why he was crying. I think he was crying because of the happy emotions he felt and maybe for the youth he misses and the lucid mind he once had. I really enjoyed these two videos. I love to see nursing home staff employees help make the residents happy and to spend time with these sweet people. I don't

Moreover, listening to big band music with him was very enjoyable, and I even once introduced him to rap music, which, as you probably assumed, didn’t go too well. I must admit that I got him to bop his head to the beat of the music a few times, which I found quite amusing. Another salient point I wish to make about Mr. Hawkins, is the admiration I had for his extensive automobile knowledge, which I am proud to say was partially inculcated in me. Even more impressive was his artistic abilities.…

Lauren Jones shares the journey of her aunt’s way of emotional healing and passion for music. No matter whether it was four, or forty people listening, she always gave 100%. The sound of my Aunt’s guitar playing reminds me of all the fond memories of visiting her as a child. The majority of my childhood memories are accompanied by the sound of my Aunt, Wendy Carmichael entertaining friends and family with the songs she had learnt. “I’ve always found so much joy in entertaining her friends and family with the songs I had learnt,” She continues.…

    Jazz concert review #2

On Sunday May 2, 2004 I attended a jazz concert with some classmates. The program was entitled Jazz at the Stockmarket. We kind of got lost on the way so we only saw the second half of the show. The Sacramento based musicians were Jim Malone on keyboard, Steve Krohn who played both the guitar and keyboard, Rich Defazio an amazing drummer. That night the band was featuring Ken Stout who is an incredible tenor saxophone player, and also a guest appearance vocalist by the name of Debbie Defazio. There was also a tremendous bass player but his name was not on the program. There was a count off and the music began with a jam-packed house. The first song was called Equinox by John Coltrane. I know I have heard this piece played before at one time or another. When the band played it they added a little taste of their own to it. The song was unique. Ken Stout played two remarkable solos; one in the beginning and on at the end. The Bass player was just fantastic; he flowed with everyone flawlessly in the first piece. The next two bits were written by Steve Krohn, which he dedicated to his three-year-old daughter. One was called Nicole's song. This part of a set was very diverse it included mixes of Christmas and cartoon songs, which blended together perfectly. The song started with a guitar then the saxophone and drums meshed in together. I really enjoyed this piece since it reminded me of the old cartoons I used to watch plus it just made you feel happy inside. I looked around and everybody in the building had a fat smile on his or her face. The next song was entitled Pleasing the Queen. It began with the drummer snapping on the symbols. This song was awesome because there was a total of six solos in the piece. There was some real talent in the band you could feel it in the air.…

“... her face gleaming with a joy that had nothing to do with Eddie or even this place; it might have been the music.” Connie was so excited and happy to be leaving with this guy, and the music accentuated that feeling. She emotionally connects with it. Another quote that illustrates this is: “And Connie paid close attention herself, bathed in a glow of slow-pulsed joy that seemed to rise mysteriously out of the music itself…” She not only emotionally relates, but spiritually as well.…

    12 Step Meeting

I enjoyed the stories that were shared and the support of all the people in the room being so respectful and listening. I also enjoyed the prayer at the end. I didn’t like when everyone had to admit aloud that they were alcoholic ( I get that it’s part of the 12 steps but it seemed like they had already admitted it to themselves because they were there) I also didn’t like the environment that the meeting was held in. It seemed like it could’ve been held in someplace outside that was relaxing or maybe in a church to connect spiritually but it was just in a business room. However I will say that even if the room could’ve been full of total first timers or strangers, they had this amazing and supportive energy that just filled the room. I loved watching these people connect , grow, and heal over a tragedy that took over their life It was also amazing and empowering to see them make the step the give themselves and the people they love a better future.…

The young girl, Vada, lives with her father in a funeral home. Her mother died when Vada was born and her dad is a mortician. This movie provides a great example of how grief is depicted in films. The young girl's grief was well portrayed by the actress. In the climax of the film, Vada’s only friend, Thomas J., dies due to an allergic reaction to bees. This film incorporated tonal montage during the funeral scene, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4li1iuctzQ. The attendees of the funeral are all wearing black clothing and are crying. In the beginning Vada is crying in her room, while listening to the service. At this moment the audience begins to hear a very melancholy melody. Vada still crying begins to slowly walk down the stairs until she gets close to the casket. There she begins to speak to Thomas J. as if he were still alive. Her grief is more than apparent. Vada begins to cry hysterically. Her father comes and pulls her away from the casket, he tells her that Thomas J. is gone. She then runs out of the house. When watching this scene one cannot help not to cry and feel…

Whether the music is being played at a happy or sad event, the emotional aspect is always there for me. Music brings people together in many ways especially if it is a moving event. The first song called, “Through the Eyes of Love,” was played from the movie called The Ice Castles. This song started off with the xylophone, and then the guitars and the rest of the instruments sounded in. They started off the song with a very bright tone and middle fast tempo. It had a lot of beats to it and it was very intense at the same time. This song was created by a very lively feeling and gave audiences a little bit information about what kind of music they were going to perform for the next three hours. Also, this song was a great opener because it made the audience (it was only about 15 of us, mostly elderly) get involved in the concert such as clapping their hands and tapping with their feet to feel the rhythm and the tempo. This song for some reason reminded me of being in the club late at night, dancing my life away. This song definitely put my groove on because I could not stop tapping my feet and moving to the beat.…
