Imagery And Irony: Writers Protest War

Writers protest war by using imagery, irony, and structure. The writers in this DBQ to protest against war using and describing images and war. They use irony by making the title seem for war while the text really is against war. They use structure like lists and such to describe how they die because of simple thing. I think writers using imagery, irony, and structure is an effective way of protesting war. Writers use imagery to protest war by describing certain events that happened using sensory details that help the reader visualize what happened. For example in document A the author of “War is Kind” uses imagery many times to show how he protests the war. He writes “ booming drums of the regiment”, “swift blazing flag” and “ eagle with crest red and gold” which are all examples of sensory details describing war and how it's a beautiful thing that happens.
In document B “Dulce et Decorum Est”, in this poem it states “Dulce et Decorum Est, pro patria mori” which means it is sweet and right to die for your country. By reading the title of this poem you think the main idea of the text is how war is a good thing, but in reality the poem describes how gruesome and destructive war really is. For example he writes “if you could hear, at every jolt, the blood come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs.” Here he is describing the scenery when they are gassed and how terrible the conditions were. Another example to support my claim of irony is the last line it states “the old lie: Dulce et Decorum Est, pro patria mori” which shows how that statement is not true and war really is not good or positive in any
