Imagery And Symbols In The Flowers By Alice Walker

There comes a point in time when a favorable moment has to come to an end. In “The Flowers” by Alice Walker, she introduces a young girl that is near sighted of what is to come. Walker indicates some symbolism throughout the story, but in the last line of the story, she uses a significant symbol that pulls the story to its ending. The last line says, “And the summer was over”. Thus, the word “summer” becomes a symbol.
