Imagery In Animal Farm
Animal Farm uses symbolic imagery to allude to the titular events that unfolded during the Russian revolution, and uses many devices to emphasize the importance of education, the preservation of history, and the dangers of an uncautious rebellion. At the start of the novel, Old Major serves as the budding idea of Animalism, for which all of the animals on Animal Farm form their government around. He comes up with this concept to motivate the suffering animals to fight back against the tyrannical humans who beat them and underfeed them. On page 3 of Animal Farm, Old Major, the wise and respected elder pig who represents the communist ideas of both Lenin and Marx, says the following:

And among us animals let there be perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades.
Later on in the story, this statement becomes a dim memory in the minds of the working animals and those that eventually did overthrow Major from the farm, as through a series of events Napoleon comes into power as the new dictator and reinstates the presence of humans on the farm. After the animals overthrew Major and his family, they began to create a new form of government, in which all animals are equal, no animal partakes in human activities, and all animals work for their share of food by farming and working to the benefit of everyone with the abuse of no one. Soon, it becomes apparent that the pigs are smarter than the other animals, and so the two most prominent pigs Snowball (Trotsky) and Napoleon (Stalin) become prominent organizers of the renamed Animal Farm, who are constantly debating and at fault with one another when arguing about the future of the farm. Not long after, Snowball comes up with a plan for a windmill, which the animals will build in a year’s time, in order to power the farm with electricity to save them time from farming and heat them in the winter, and to improve their quality of life.
